Filed under Garden | No Comments

To be able to decide if you should choose an enclosed patio in aluminum finish you will need to know the benefits and options available. So start here to find some information about this excellent choice to improve your outdoor living area.

The benefits and design features of an enclosed patio in aluminum finish:

An enclosed patio in aluminum finish is best for those spaces that are large enough to enclose using an insulated roof and walls with glass windows to allow year round functionality. The great part of these enclosed patios are that even a standard insulated roof panel comes with 3 inch foam to keep the warm in during winter and eliminate overheating in summer. It also includes what is called “aluminum skins” on top and on the underside of the roof, so it’s well protected. In an enclosed patio in aluminum finish the walls are not solid although some areas for privacy will be designed with anywhere from 2 inches to 4 inches of thickness and textured skins inside and out with the framework being made from what is called “extruded” aluminum, and the glass is tempered and may be glazed. The walls have versatile swinging doors, sliding doors or even French doors. So that is one option for a complete enclosed patio in aluminum finish that will be warm and cozy all year.

Semi Enclosed Patio in Aluminum Finish

There are other uses for aluminum patio covers. For example there are mobile home patio covers that have a smooth finish with front and side gutters and a downspout to drain rainwater. The cover has solid roof panels made in aluminum that is maintenance free and will include decorative hangers and scroll columns, and these types of semi enclosed patio in aluminum finish designs are available in stylish modern colors like white or neutral beige. For a residential version of this you can select a wood-grained or textured front and side gutters and even V-shaped roof panels all in aluminum that never requires painting or upkeep, and can be ordered in lots of fabulous colors like sand, beige, tan, adobe or creamy latte. There are three different ranges for enclosed patio in aluminum finish enclosures and roofs, one is standard, another economical and a third is premium. The main differences are the thickness of beams and the textures and finishes you can choose from that even mimic wood.

Are Discount Mattresses Necessarily Cheap?

Filed under Bedding | No Comments

In the world of discount mattresses it is important to distinguish the difference between those that are simply sold at a reduced cost and those that leave your back tired and sore due to poor craftsmanship. What holds true about the word “cheap” in most industries does so in the discount mattress business as well. Namely, that “cheap” does not have to mean “inferior.” To be sure there are mattresses for sale that indeed are inferior in every way. Regardless of how little one pays for such a mattress, it seems like too much, especially in the middle of a long night of no sleep or a day filled will lower back pain.

The good news is that quality need not be sacrificed whether you make your purchase at a mattress discounter, department store, or online. If you are in the market for a discount mattress set you will find quality products and services can be found at premium and discount stores alike. The idea that because a business sells discount mattresses means you will get treated poorly either with the product, service, or both is nonsense. This is not any truer than the claim that you will get quality products, service, or both at a premium provider. A good example of this is one retailer of discount mattresses has all potential customers first fill out a survey so the sales staff can better understand what the buyer wants/needs in their mattress. Most consumers would have a difficult time finding this kind of attention to detail at any retailer, including premium outlets. Fact is, what you are more likely to get at the premium outlet is a price that is premium, and average service.

In fact, one will find upon searching for discount mattresses that often the supposed discount mattresses are the same high quality national brand names, only reduced in price for a variety of reasons. However, they have a lower price, these discount mattresses had to meet company standards prior to being shipped.

Then how do they end up on showroom floors at the local mattress discounter costing less than they do at other vendors? Usually the most common reason for the price differences has more to do with internal agreements made by the manufacturer with each retailer than anything else. Commonly the motivating factor for the smaller price tag is the retailer has agreed to purchase a larger inventory from the manufacturer so they are given a more preferred price than their competitor down the street. This is one way brand name mattresses can be sold as discount mattresses to the customer.

Another way that high quality bedding can be sold as discount mattresses is by the retailer becoming an “exclusive” dealer of a certain brand name. The willingness of the retailer to limit the brand choices they offer customers is offset by price reductions from the manufacturer. The manufacturer is essentially paying the seller to reduce competition by refusing to secure agreements with other companies that would provide discount mattresses.

Some of the brands selling as discount mattresses include Sealy, Serta, Stearns & Foster, and Tempur-Pedic just to name a few. These are hardly names associated with poorly crafted mattresses. When in the market for a new mattress one need not feel that discount mattresses are cheap in quality, only less expensive.

Filed under General Home | No Comments

Because of the popularity of beach resorts and beach houses, people have been getting into buying or renting their own rest house by the beach. It’s customary for homes on the beach to come ready with outdoor shower plumbing. They’re really usable for your entire household, expressly as soon as they return from a swim, to employ ahead of entering your home. If you’ve contemplated adding outdoor shower plumbing to your home, it should be an enjoyable project.

It will be wise to figure out your household’s requirements if you are making a plan for an outdoor shower enclosure. Will it be wanted by kids and grown-ups above all for cleaning off following a swim? When this then will be you biggest purpose, it should not be regarded as crucial to ensure that you allow a private location and fully enclosed. Whilst the variety of outdoor shower cubicle is utterly a matter of personal preference, wood shower enclosures seem charming and are cut-priced.

When all you require will be a very quick bathe, your outdoor shower plumbing needs are sure to be easy, however anytime you regularly hanker after extended hot showers, you may perhaps have to boost your hot-water usage. Therefore planning the perfect portable outdoor shower will be dependent on whether you will be creating it from scratch or else merely remodeling.

Including lighting arrangements will certainly be valuable, expressly if the shower stall may be used at night. An additional point could be to position a shelf or rack to hold towels. This will in turn make your beach house a lovely place to stay in.

Advantages of a Walk In Electric Shower

Filed under Bathrooms | No Comments

You may well be asking yourself “what the heck is a walk in electric shower?” It is something that you don’t hear a lot about unless you are looking for shower specifically and then it is still a fairly new item. Basically what it is a shower head with its own heating element to heat the water right at the point of use. It is sort of like the old tank less water heaters but only for the shower itself. It doesn’t require a lot of room and can be installed in not much more room than just a shower head.

When you add up the cost of installing an electric shower including the cost of hiring a local plumber or electrician which ever you need or both, you will probably still save money by using an electric shower. If you are a do it your self’er with plumbing and electrical experience you could probably install it yourself. The plumbing side is fairly simple to install as you only have to connect one cold water supply line. When it comes to the electrical side of the installation it is going to be a little trickier and would probably be safer to leave it to an electrician with experience with wiring around a water source.

While you can take a hot shower now if someone else has taken one in the last little bit your water is not going to be quite as hot as their water was and as you continue to take your shower the water will continue to become colder because of the way that the water heater works,as the hot water leaves the tank it is replaced by cold water flooding in. if your water heater is older and less efficient or if it breaks down, then there will be no more hot water for the shower until it is fixed. How ever none of this matters, with an electric shower because you only need cold water plumbed to it for a nice hot shower.

A walk in electric shower while being very economical and energy efficient, would probably also be considered a luxury item in many places. Just ask you’re self how luxurious it would feel to have a nice hot shower any time and one that stays hot.

Using Glass Blocks: Things To Know About Building A Glass Block Wall

Filed under Renovations | No Comments

Everybody dreams of an ideal space in which to live in tranquility. Sometimes finding this space only requires a little effort and rearrangement in one’s home to create a little area where you can be alone once in a while. Just separating an area in a large family room could give you the privacy that you might be seeking. There are many ways to add a separation wall but a wall would make the room look much smaller and would in fact create another room. The solution resides in the materials you use for you wall. If you were to choose glass blocks to erect your partition you would create the space for privacy, but instead of reducing the room you would simply add a decorative element.

Glass blocks are often used for external walls as well, as they bring in light in rooms that do not have windows, but they particularly shine as an interior wall material, as they should not be used for load bearing walls. They can be used in many different colors, textures, and light filtering effects. They have found a following among interior decorating enthusiasts because they are so versatile.

Glass blocks are heavy but can be installed easily for a partition wall, as long as you have a good ground surface to begin. To construct a glass block wall it is necessary to keep within a 6 yard length and an area not larger than 194 square feet. Anything larger than this would require steel rod reinforcement. To make the wall the right dimension it is more prudent to buy some smaller bricks for the ends, if necessary, than to try to cut a glass block. It is possible to cut a block but not easy.

You should never consider using glass blocks for a partition if they are not attached together and properly anchored as it could be very dangerous. They are installed just as bricks would with mortar, or if installed in a wet area like a bathroom a silicone mortar is used. The store where you buy your blocks will provide you with all the step by step information you need to build your little nest.

Pantry Cabinets Are Growing In Popularity

Filed under Kitchens | No Comments

Traditionally, affluent homes had a large pantry for the storage of food and utensils. They were usually set up so that many chores could also be carried out there. However, in more modest houses, freestanding cupboards provided storage space. Since the kitchens were seldom spacious, the room these required was unfavorably regarded. Therefore, builders began constructing cabinets that could be mounted on the walls, utilizing wasted space over head. But as kitchens began to be larger, many homeowners started looking for more convenient methods of storage, and pantry cabinets again became popular.

Many different types are available, and the cost can be tailored to fit any budget. There are pantry storage cabinets you need to assemble which can be found at most major retailers. Normally, these are of molded plastic, or a wood look veneer in fairly standard finishes, and are the least costly. For those who want something better and do not mind spending a few thousand dollars, there are heirloom pieces to be found. Some of these feature hand carving and are recycled from antique, rare wood.

You can find cabinets with solid doors, as well as open units. Rollers are available on some, and there are those designed to roll into place next to the refrigerator. Most units are at least 3 feet tall, and the shorter ones can also be stacked. The tallest units can be over six feet in height.

Many accessories are available for your new pantry. One popular item is a turntable or lazy Susan. Pull out shelves and baskets to keep smaller items organized are also frequently chosen. Most organizers are not included with the unit, although some do offer limited accessories that are included in the price.

If you want to be able to tell at a quick glance what is inside the cabinet, you can choose one with a glass door. Some have a charming stained glass appearance, and this style has proven very popular in recent years.

Whatever type you choose, the functionality and warmth that such cabinets exude will make you happy to relinquish the floor space they need. You can surely locate one that is perfect for the heart of your home, the kitchen.

Freezers of Small Refrigerators

Filed under Appliances | No Comments

When it comes to cheap small refrigerators, there usually isn’t much in the way of freezer capacity. Most units offer very small freezer compartments that are barely enough to make a tray of ice. But if freezer capacity is something you are taking more seriously then there are some things to know when shopping for a small refrigerator. Almost any standard small refrigerator will come with a little bit of freezing space but it does largely depend on the size of the unit.

For those with very specific freezer needs there is an option that allows the compact size and versatility of a small refrigerator that doesn’t compromise the freezer space. These are dual-function freezer-refrigerators that are all of one or the other. This means that the entire unit can be set to freezer mode or to refrigerator mode but can only do one mode at a time. For those who will use their refrigerator sparingly and have another appliance for their refrigerator needs this could make a lot of sense.

Most cheap small refrigerators such as the compact cube or mini fridge come with half width and full width freezer compartments respectfully. Half width means that the freezer space is one quarter the width of the interior of the refrigerator and fully width means that it stretches the entire top of the refrigerator. The freezer inside a compact cube truly is only good for an ice tray while you could get away with a little more in a full width freezer. It is typically good for flat items such as left over pizza slices or slabs of meat. Although the limited coolness factor makes it less than ideal for keeping meats especially if you are more particular about being safe.

Choosing a top mounted freezer in larger units that offer a separated freezer compartment is a good idea since it helps prevent wasted energy consumption. Those who need more than the half or full width freezer might consider a larger refrigerator that comes with a separate freezer compartment.

Finding Cheap Wardrobe Closets

Filed under Organization | No Comments

It’s no secret that wardrobe closets are expensive. So expensive, in fact, that there’s air of elegance, or some may say snobbery, automatically associated with the wooden wardrobe armoire and its related armoire cousins, such as the jewelry armoire or the corner armoire.

But does that mean there’s no such thing as cheap wardrobe closets? While it certainly takes a bit more effort to find inexpensive wardrobe armoire furniture, it can be done. For the purposes of “cheap” furniture, we mean an armoire that’s under $200. Now that still may make it expensive to some, but this is in comparison to the common price tag of $500 or $1,000 to $2,000 that is common to find on a brand new armoire.

If you’re in the market for a cheap wardrobe closet, here are some tips.

First of all, consider buying it used. This can work two ways. One, you may find that used wardrobe closets are sold as antique wardrobe closets, and than actually increases the price. No good – let’s pass on this one! The other way this plays out is what we’re looking for. That is to say, you find a used armoire that is heavily discounted because it’s not brand new. The easiest way in this day and age to find something like this is to search for it on Craigslist first, and then approach antique or used furniture dealerships second.

Another method of finding used wardrobe closets is to hit up yard, garage, and estate sales, and see what you can find. This method takes some heavy involvement in time and effort, but it’s certainly a good way to save 50% or more on an armoire.

Another practical way to save money here is to simply buy the cheapest wardrobe closets available. Companies such as Honey Can Do Wardrobe Closets make inexpensive armoire furniture. Other companies doing the same inlcude Sauder, Prepac, and Home and Living.

Out of all these methods, I’d spend my efforts on the either finding something used via Craiglist or finding something new that is priced below $200 straight from the manufacturer. In this way, it’s possible to save a lot of money on a technically cheap but still quality wardrobe closet.

Building A New Garage At Home

Filed under Garages | No Comments

Building a garage at home is an ideal choice for somewhere to store the SUV, car, motorbike or boat. If vehicles are left outside, on the road or in a driveway, they are susceptible to the ravages of the environment.

In winter, rain and hail can cause microscopic pitting of the pain surface which may eventually lead to rust. Also bird droppings can leave permanent unsightly marks due to a similar oxidization process. Problems can be faced all year round as in winter, hail and rain can cause pitting of the surface which may eventually lead to rusting.

Security is also a very important consideration. Vehicles left outside, especially overnight, on a road or driveway are at an increased risk of vandalism or worse being stolen. Therefore, building a garage to store your vehicle is a great investment.

Garages are commonly built either by traditional methods from using wood or bricks and mortar. They can, however, come as prefabricated kits. Wooden garages can come in kit form but often require carpentry skills and the necessary tools to do the job. The easiest and quickest option is to buy a metal garage building kit. They are often cheaper, easier and faster to build and do not usually require specialist tools.

A prefabricated metal building kit does not mean you have to build the garage yourself. Employing the services of a professional builder is a perfectly reasonable option. This can, very often, workout to be more cost effective. This is because the garage can usually be built quicker, saving time, and fewer, potentially costly, mistakes will be made.

Metal garages are a very good option as once constructed they produce a building that is strong and secure. They are able to withstand all that the environment is able to throw at it such as earthquakes, fire and hurricanes. For these reasons, insurance premiums are often lower also. They are also more resistant to pest attack, especially termites.

A metal garage can give other possibilities though, for storage of other items like childrens toys, tools and gardening equipment. Searching online is a good place to start to get a taste of the range of designs and styles available. You will often find, also, that many will give discounts if you negotiate.

Basement Renovation Ideas for Home Offices

Filed under Renovations | No Comments

If you are considering making use of your unused basement space that you might already though about converting into an office. This will be especially handy for anyone who works from home and will allow you to more easily separate your life and work spaces. If so then you will probably appreciate a few pointers to help you get the most from your renovation.

A fulltime basement office space must be dry, warm, have as much natural lighting as possible, have good electrical lighting and lots of outlets to plug-in equipment. If you are renovating your basement from scratch, put in double the number of electrical outlets you think you need in the area where the office will be. It’s a big mistake to have only two outlets when at least 5 is a must. Let’s assume you have sealed the basement of cracks and leaks and the basics are done. Raise the floor slightly off the cement, if possible, and have floor heating installed, especially if your area is cold in the winter.

The biggest problem with basement offices is that they are cold and the easiest way to make a comfy space is to have a dry warm floor where your feet will rest 8 or more hours a day. Hardwood is the best finish. Add an area rung under your desk for your feet. If there’s a window, place your desk so you will face the window, not a wall. The best basement renovation ideas, architectural plans and beautiful décor won’t matter much if all you see all day is a wall. Place your desk in the middle of the room or away from the wall, invest in a comfortable padded swivel chair, and have shelving built into every spare place you can.

The key to a success fulltime basement office will be having a warm, dry, comfortable, bright, well lit and well organized space where you will want to work every day. Spend your money on heating, flooring, lighting and storage. Those are the top home office basement renovation ideas that are often overlooked.

Tub Chairs Add Style To Any Room

Filed under Seating | No Comments

Tub chairs have been around for hundreds of years. Today they are enjoying a renaissance as designer tub chairs become popular in the smartest houses and apartments around the country. They are an extremely versatile item of furniture and everyone has room in their home for at least one tub chair.

The main reason why tub chairs were so popular in the past and are becoming so again nowadays is that they take up so much less space than a conventional armchair. This makes them perfect for smaller modern homes. Furniture designers have recognized this benefit and are now producing tub chairs in a huge range of styles, designs and materials to suit every type of home.

The traditional tub chair is a classic design in leather, often with studs and looks fabulous in a large hallway or study, with swivel models making an unusual and versatile office chair or a dining chair with a difference. A modern, funky, designer style tub chair looks perfect in a high-tech minimalist apartment, in basic black or white of course.

Tub chairs can be upholstered in any pattern or color of fabric and a deeply padded version makes an ideal bedroom chair. Some types of tub chair have wooden legs and by matching the type of wood to your bedroom furniture, you can produce a coordinated scheme. Some of the contemporary tub chairs have extra design features, such as a footstool concealed within the base which can be tucked neatly away when not in use. There are even twin tub chairs, big enough for two.

Rattan or wicker tub chairs make lovely conservatory or garden room furniture – pile high with colorful pillows for an exotic look. Take them out onto the patio in fine weather where they look so much more stylish than folding garden chairs.

European and American Console Table Furniture Styles

Filed under Tables | No Comments

The narrow console table is a popular furniture style that is often used in the hallway where space is short but you can also make use of it anywhere you need to fill in an area with a functional yet compact table.

The glass half moon styles tend to be of European design and therefore are easiest to find in Scandinavian and UK furniture shops, both online and in showrooms. The most popular North American designs are the mission console table styles that are rectangular in shape and usually have a wood or metal framework that’s very simple. Many of the contemporary furniture designers in New York and other US cities incorporate the minimalist ideas of glass or transparent plexi into the traditional mission console table designs that were once all wood. The most affordable models still remain those made from pine or unfinished wood and are often under $100. The contemporary or modern art versions with glass and metal in the mission style will be more expensive, from around $200 to $500 or more.

Decorating With Console Tables

Whether you choose an American classic mission console table in wood or a modern version in glass will largely depend on how the rest of the room is decorated. Since these little tables serve primarily a decorative function, you may want to select a piece that will contrast the other furniture while still keeping with the general theme. For example if you have a minimalist room, you may want a half moon glass console table with colored or mirrored glass instead of a plain transparent top, or you may choose a design with elaborate curved or scrolled legs to contrast the straight lines of the rest of the room. Likewise a country classic wood décor will require a wooden mission console table to match the general theme, but make it stand out by selecting a piece that has wrought iron accent legs or a glass top, or some small detail like knobs or drawer handles that add contrast.

Multi-Purpose File Storage

Filed under Storage | No Comments

Most of the wood file cabinets you’ll see in your local furniture retailer and even on the Internet are designed to just hold documents and maybe some random office supplies like pens, stapler, Post-It notes and the like.

For many people furnishing their office room, this kind of wood file cabinet is sufficient for their usage. However, if you desire greater flexibility in your file cabinet then you should consider a vertical file storage locker.

Not only can you hold your important files in the bottom drawers, you can also place bulky items such as your coat in the spacious storage unit on the top half of the cabinet. Another benefit of this kind of file cabinet is that the generous storage space is achieved by using floor space more efficiently. This will further help in de-cluttering your office.

On the topic of better utilization of space, it definitely pays to get the sizing correct from the very start. Getting a wooden filing cabinet isn’t simply a matter of buying the first one you see in the shop! It is not a small cheap item and even if some stores allow you to return them, it can be a major hassle, especially if you are required to disassemble them and put them back in their original packaging.

One of the most essential factors is the size of the wooden filing cabinet. You need to carefully read the specification placed on the manufacturer website or on the product itself. If the drawer dimensions are too small for your files, then the cabinet will be totally useless.

Another related aspect is the number of drawers. This is probably not too critical because if the first cabinet you get is a two drawer wooden filing cabinet which has insufficient storage space, you can simply buy another. Otherwise, you can sell the cabinet and purchase a larger 4 drawer wooden filing cabinet.

Steel Security Doors For Your Home

Filed under Doors | No Comments

In today’s modern world security is now of paramount importance in many peoples lives. Normal wooden doors with a single key lock are often not enough to give people the security they desire. This is why steel security doors are becoming more popular.

A steel security door may conjure up an image of a prison cell type door but this is no longer the case. These doors now come in a wide variety of styles and colours including wood effect.

Steel security doors and frames go through many tests to ensure they can resist force in many forms including crowbars, hammers, screwdrivers etc. Bolts and hinges are welded and the doors are fitted with anti-pry strips to ensure that there is no way the door can be opened by the wrong person.

These doors are heavier and chunkier than the average wooden door. They normally weigh around 50kg/m2 and measure 45 mm (1¾”) thick including an outer steel skin of around 1.5 mm. It is usual for each door to be fitted with up to 4 heavy duty hinges which will be welded to the door and to the frame. These hinges may include dog bolts giving added security to the hinged side of the door.

Obviously the locks on security doors are of utmost importance. This will normally be a cylinder lock with up to 20 extending bolts and up to 5 dead bolts. This effectively locks the door in all directions and at all points. A door retainer allows the door to be partially opened but still kept secure, similar to a door chain but much stronger.

To allow the occupant to view any visitors before opening, there may be a small window made with 44mm thick toughened glass, at eye level height. This would be set within a steel frame, welded for additional security.

How to Research a Plumber

Filed under General Home | No Comments

Unfortunately at some point you are very likely to require the services of a professional plumber or plumbing company in your home.  How can you best prepare yourself for this undesirable yet unavoidable situation? Well there are a few simple tips that you can follow when you are forced to research your plumber.

1. Read reviews from independent sources. In many communities across the country there are lots of websites that offer unbiased independent reviews of local plumbing contractors.  Sites like Atlanta Plumbers Online make researching an Atlanta plumber a whole lot easier.  Take advantage of resources like these in your area. You will often find that companies that have a poor reputation tend to over compensate with agressive marketing campaigns. This tends to give the consumer the impression that the company is strong but in actuality this may not be the case at all.  Doing your homework by seeking out independent review sites makes sure that you will not waste time or money finding out the hard way that the plumbing company you hire isn’t everything they are cracked up to be.

2.  Check the local Better Business Bureau. The BBB has built their reputation by allowing consumers to find out useful information about companies in their community. This repuation is a direct result of the fact that they accept consumer complaints and make thos complaints avaiable for the public to see. They do give businesses the opportunity to respond to these types of complaints so it will also give you a chance to see whether a company values their reputation. If they respond and try to resolve a customer dispute then that says that the company cares and is genuinely interested in taking care of its customers. If they have several complaints that they have simply ignored then this sends the exact opposite message. Watch out for companies like this.

Following these simple tips will help you better research a plumber and make an informed decsion when hirign a plumber or plumbing company.

A Futon Bed For The Guest Room

Filed under Bedding | No Comments

from the staff of Your Next Futon

When you are in the market for a new bed in the guest room, consider buying a futon bed. We’re all trying to save money these days and a futon is a great economical addition to the house.

As you probably know, futons started out with a simple design — usually a wooden base and a simple mattress. These days they are more elaborate. There is even a futon bunk bed design! So finding the right style for the guest room is easy.

First, as with any furniture shopping, set your price before you start. If you don’t, you will be swayed into spending more than you want either by a salesman or buy your own desire for bigger and better.

You can find a good futon for less than $300. It is nice that you are not buying a mattress that needs to be super-duper because this is a guest room. No one is going to be sleeping on the bed night after night. So the mattress (which for a regularly used futon will matter the most) is less important. That means you can spend less money.

Futon beds are perfect for a guest room because they are convertible. They can spend 99% of the time as a couch and then, when you need it, it becomes a bed. How much more econimical can you get? This is also why the futon bunk bed design is so great. It is perfect for the kids’ room. He can sleep up top and below is a couch until he has a friend sleep over. A bunk bed could look a little weird in the guest room, but it might be another good option. If you have an extra television or game console in the guest room, the bunk bed gives you that playful dorm room feel that might work in your house.

You might spend $200 on a guest bed, so why not consider buying options with a futon bed? You can keep it as a couch, if for no other reason than it gives you more room in the guest room. Beds are so boring and stationary — at least with a futon, you can have a versatile room.

Light is Important In Modern Kitchens

The quality of any recipe is only going to be as good as the weakest ingredient that goes into it.  The same concept applies when you are designing a kitchen, regardless of the final design.  Modern kitchens, with their heavy emphasis on aesthetics on design, are particularly susceptible to problems related to one such component being of lesser quality.  People get excited about their kitchen tiles, the appliances, colors, and things like that, but one component tends to be forgotten more than any other – the quality of the lighting that goes into your kitchen.

If you ask a photographer about what is the most important component of any scene, lighting will almost always be the response.  Even the most beautiful scene can be ruined if there is a problem with the lighting that is used.  This is why so much time and effort is put into getting the lighting just right before the picture is taken.  Now, since you are remodeling your kitchen, you know that you are putting a good deal of money and effort into the job.  Don’t you want to do everything you can to show it off just as much as you can?  Of course you do.

A combination of artificial and natural lighting works best when it comes to modern kitchen design.  Wide open windows break down the psychological barriers between your kitchen and the world outside, making even a tiny kitchen seem much larger than it really is.  You are going to want to supplement this soft natural light with a hard artificial light to not only accentuate any particular part of your kitchen that you are looking to show off, but also to provide you with a solid source of work lighting so you can be sure to work safely.  The combination of these two light sources is what can take a beautiful kitchen and really put it over the top.

Single Carports Offer Economic Vehicle Protection

Filed under General Home | No Comments

Many motorists are opting for a single carport to shelter their vehicles because it is an undeniable fact that prolonged exposure to sunlight and other natural elements has an undesirable effect on your car’s paint job, interior surfaces, and especially the structural components. Not only do carports ensure you will get the best trade-in value for your vehicle, but they provide a level of convenience you will come to appreciate almost immediately. You will never again burn your hands on a hot steering wheel or arrive at work late because of the amount of time it takes to remove the snow off of the vehicle. For some, tree sap is another annoyance that can be avoided by parking your car under a protective shelter.

Carport construction kits can be purchased for those who wish to build their own shelter structure. Most are considered prefabricated models that are ready for delivery and super easy to install on site. Construction materials consist of steel, aluminum, wood, or a combination of any of the above. You can even choose a color that matches your vehicle or home. Many manufacturers also offer side-enclosure kits to help provide more privacy and increased protection for your valuables against the elements.

Single carports range from simplistic, flat-roof designs to the more elaborate multi-purpose designs. For example, wooden vertical side railing can be added to double as a trellis for climbing roses. Before purchasing your new carport, make sure to check with your local building authorities to find out if you will need to apply for a building permit.

A single aluminum carport is a great economical alternative to the much more costly construction of a permanent garage. Prices of carports range from about $400 for an all aluminum structure to about $6000 for a heavy duty steel structure, large enough to house a recreational vehicle or a large piece of farm machinery. No matter which type, style, or material you choose, all major sellers have financing options that can better meet your budget restrictions. If you have limited space available and aren’t exactly sure which size and model of carport would be best suited to you, talk or visit a dealer for a free estimate.

Discover The Conical Burr Coffee Grinder

Filed under Appliances | No Comments

Coffee lovers all agree that grinding coffee beans yourself is essential to making the perfect cup. And given the choice between a blade or a burr grinder, the burr coffee grinder wins as the superior bean grinding machine.

A burr grinder operates using a wheel that moves along a stationery surface, allowing for a more consistent grind of the fresh beans. There are two types of burr coffee grinders depending upon your budget.

The more economical of the two is a wheel burr grinder which features a burr wheel that rotates very quickly and generates a lot more noise. The conical burr coffee grinder is the more expensive model, but the one preferred by purists as it spins much more quietly and slowly than a blade model which means it creates a lot less mess. The conical grinder is also less likely to get clogged if you are using flavored or more oily beans.

One of the joys of owning a burr coffee grinder is that this style allows you to have exceptional control over the final ground coffee which is not possible with a blade grinder. Blade grinders use food quality metal blades that tend to chop up the coffee beans rather than truly grind them so you cannot control the fineness of the final product. Because the wheel spins so quickly on a blade grinder, coffee bean taste can be adversely affected when the final product is burnt by the heat generated due to the high speed action.

When selecting a burr coffee grinder, check the machine for special features, such as a 300 watt motor which will burn out less frequently, controls which allow for a variety of ground fineness levels, a hopper that can hold at least 4 ounces of beans, an automatic shut-off feature and a collection cannister for depositing the ground beans. Each of these features adds to the joy of using and enjoying a burr coffee grinder.
