Krups BeerTender B95 Versus the EdgeStar Mini Kegerator TBC50S

Filed under Appliances | No Comments

As Heineken introduces it’s 5 liters DraughtKeg and Premium Light DraughtKeg, the premium brewery brand also collaborated with Krups to produce the Krups BeerTender series. Many other home appliances manufacturer has thus jumped on the bandwagon of producing mini kegerators instead of full sized ones. One such company is Edgestar and in this article we would compare two very popular mini kegerator models: the Krups BeerTender B95 and the EdgeStar Mini Kegerator TBC50S. Both of which are hot sellers and ranked among the top in terms of sales and review volume on amazon.com. We aim to provide a comprehensive guide for you to decide which kegerator you need and how well each kegerator would serve you.

In terms of appearance, the Edgestar TBC50s has a clear window for users to show off the keg’s body’s and brand but sadly it does not indicate the amount of beer left in the keg which can be quite a pain when having to deal with shortage of new kegs to replace those fast emptying ones. The Krups BeerTender B95 on the other hand has no window display for showing the keg but has a neat LCD display screen that indicates the volume left in the keg so that you would be aware of when to top up and back up a new keg.  We would recommend the Krups BeerTender B95 over the EdgeStar Mini Kegerator TBC50S for not only its sleek and stylish appearance but also for its practicality. Both mini kegerator stands around the same dimension with the Kurps standing at 18 by 12 by 19.5 inches weighting 16 pounds and the EdgeStar standing at 15 by 15 by 13 inches weighting 29 pounds, we though smaller, the EdgeStar model does seems to be a little heavier than Krups thus might posses a slightly challenge in mobility.

As for function, both the Krups and EdgeStar has the capacity to dispense from a single 5 liter keg. The Krups however has a disadvantage of being solely catered for dispensing Heineken kegs, while the Edgestar can be upgraded with a separately sold upgrade kit to fit almost any kind of keg. The Krups model has 3 temperature settings between 36, 39 and 42 degrees while the EdgeStar model 38 to 54 degrees Fahrenheit. Pricewise the humble EdgeStar model has the advantage of being economically priced below 200 dollars while the Krups BeerTender B95 is often below the price of 450 dollars. This makes the EdgeStar a better choice especially for those running on a tighter budget.

Our conclusion is that the Krups BeerTender B95 is valued for consumers who are looking for a more exquisite looking and convenient kegerator while the EdgeStar TBC50S would be suitable for starters who wants to try out the taste of owning a kegerator without spending too much money while having to enjoy the privilege of installing different brand of kegs including home brewed keg on a proper kegerator.

Bathroom Tile For Walls

Filed under Bathrooms | No Comments

When considering bathroom tile, many people immediately think of flooring.  However, bathroom tile is often times used for walls as it is both waterproof and attractive.  In this case, tile is generally installed around showers, bathtubs, and sinks.  But, what is the right style of bathroom tile to use?  There are many options of bathroom tile for walls that include ceramic, vinyl, and stone.

The first consideration to make in bathroom tiles for the wall structure is how it will hold in areas where it is prone to get wet.  Ceramic tiles are an excellent choice as the material is very waterproof and provides great durability.  Similarly, stone tile provides excellent water resistance and longevity.   Vinyl tile is semi-water resistant, but is less durable due to being a softer material.

Secondly, the right bathroom tile must provide adequate sanitation.  In other words, it should be easy to clean.  Ceramic tile is a very smooth surface that is not porous.  This makes the material ideal for cleaning as most mildew and stains with little effort.  Stone has a very textured surface.  Although it can be cleaned, the process can be time consuming to attend to every groove.  Vinyl is rather stain resistant and can handle many different cleaning chemicals.  However, the soft material does attract mildew.  With both stone and ceramic tiles, grouting must be used to seal each tile into place.  The grouting substances that are generally used are porous and very prone to mildew.  In many cases, mildew must be removed from grout with strong cleaners and considerable work.

Lastly, budget must be considered.  By far, ceramic tile is most economical for persons on a budget.  Ceramic bathroom tile is easy to obtain in a variety of colors.  Because it can be mass produced, it is rather inexpensive to purchase and supplies that are needed to install it are reasonable in cost, as well.  Although vinyl tile is the least expensive bathroom tile to purchase, it is not as durable as ceramic and tends to need replacement after a few years.  Stone is undoubtedly the most expensive material to purchase.  It is beautiful and very durable, but the cost of stone can be an obstacle for many consumers.

When it comes to bathroom tile for walls it is important to consider three items.  The first is how resistant the material is to water damage.  The second item to consider is how convenient the product is to clean.  The third is affordability.

Walk In Closet Organization Ideas to Land You the Job

Filed under Organization | No Comments

Managing your career can start with walk-in closets. A mismanaged life can sometimes be evident on how you are dressed. Mismatched shoes, socks, and over all get-up says much about how difficult a time a person is having organizing his or her life. There are certainly repercussions. If you walk in an interview wearing the most uncoordinated colors or the wrong top with the right bottoms, you can lose the job even before your interview began no matter how smart your answers are.

An employer would most likely be seeking an employee with a good sense of organization and who can work under pressure. Wearing mismatched clothes sends a message that you: 1) woke up late, grabbed the first thing you can find, rushed into the interview and you probably don’t have a good sense of time, 2) since you woke up late, you were under so much pressure to get ready and you since you couldn’t handle pressure well, you ended up wearing the wrong clothes, and 3) you don’t really have a good sense of organization or you would have worn the right clothes no matter how pressured you were.

Organizing your life has to start somewhere and you can start with the seemingly small things: managing your wardrobe. Work around the thought that if you can’t manage seemingly small things then how can you manage a big thing like a career? Take a look at your closet, if you have cramped space and disorganized piles of clothes, shoes, accessories and bags then start with increasing space and useful closet organization ideas. If you have piles of assorted items that you can’t let go of then walk-in closets are probably the best solution. With a wide space where you can place things within reach and within plain view, you can easily mix and match your get-up just by just looking.

However, before you have your closet constructed make sure you choose the right materials. Sort through your wardrobe items to get an idea of how many shelves, rods, drawers, etc. you need or if you even need one. Consider the space in your bedroom. While it is nice to have a closet that is wide enough to run around in, your bedroom might only support the smaller types where you can still walk through but not as wide as what Sarah Jessica Parker has. Also, consider your budget. Do you have enough for high class materials or do you need budget-friendly but quality ones?

A walk in closet is a great solution for organizing various items that are either really essential or just things you can’t let go of. Having organized wardrobe helps you focus on more important things such as landing the job you’ve always wanted and laying the foundations of a good career. Keeping your things organized is definitely not the only thing that you need to accomplish in order to land yourself a good job but it can certainly be the first step and everything else follows. As they say, dress like you are a success and success will come your way.

The Pros and Cons Of Buying Soundproof Drywall

Filed under General Home | No Comments

Choosing You Soundproofing Method

In the soundproofing industry, there are several options available to help you isolate and block sounds from entering your room. While the easiest way to soundproof your room is to construct it properly before the home is built, we are often not fortunate enough to have the foresight to think about soundproofing until we are annoyed by our neighbors. For after construction soundproofing methods, there are techniques such adding a second layer of sheetrock to your walls with a sound barrier adhesive, or even filling gaps in the frames of your room openings.

Still the best way to soundproof a room is to take the walls down to the studs and use a proper construction technique. There are two common ways to soundproof a wall, one requires “floating” the wall off the studs with special channel, and the other requires using soundproof drywall to replace the existing drywall on your walls.

Benefits Of Soundproof Drywall

By far the easiest method of soundproofing a room is to replace the walls with soundproof drywall. It is constructed with a dense porcelain based material embedded into the gypsum giving it the mass to block nearly all sound. As a reference, it can increase your wall’s sound transmission class from a rating of 40 all they way up to 58. But there are specific benefits to soundproof drywall that make it preferable to other methods. For example, while your walls are open you can implement other sound and energy efficiencies like foam pipe insulation or cellulose cavity insulation. Additionally, soundproof drywall is much harder to “short circuit” compared to other soundproofing methods like raised channel. However, the ease of install and dramatic results do come at a cost- as much as 10 times the cost of a regular sheet of gypsum sheet drywall.

Consider A Flat Roof Garage

Filed under Garages | No Comments

Constructing any kind of building is always a complicated affair – especially when you start thinking about how to get all the little details entirely right. Few things are more important for roofing than getting the details right – no matter what kind of roof you are building. With that in mind, why not make things easy for yourself?

There is a reason the flat roof garage is so popular: It is easy to build – well, relatively easy. If nothing else, at least the roof trusses are simpler when only a single slope is involved. Often, they will not be so tall as those used on a pitched roof, which makes handling and installing easier for beginner roofers – and anyone else for that matter.

Still, when it comes to the task of draining water away from the roof surface, a flat roof (well, nearly flat) does the job just as well, if you build it right. Since gravity is of less help, when there is less of a slope, it becomes all the more important to make the surface as impenetratable to water as possible. This is why materials like roofing felt is often used in this application – it is simply welded together to act as a single membrane. Even roofing sheets will have openings where they overlap, which is why they need a slightly steeper angle to work, than felt does.

The roof cladding must also lead the water properly into the rain gutters, which themselves must be completely free of debris and dirt, if the water is not to flow back on the roof surface during heavy rainfall. You have to give gravity the best possible working conditions here. If you want to know more about the finer details of flat garage roofs, visit garageroofing.com for more good roofing information.

Why Experts Recommend Hampton Bay Ceiling Fans

Filed under Ventilation | No Comments

When buying ceiling fans many people look at its ability to keep the air moving and create a light breeze in the room or area it is used in. Or they look at the design and features of the fan. However it is important to consider several other things when you are selecting a ceiling fan. In addition to that just mentioned most important ability, you need to select a ceiling fan that uses energy efficiently and helps you reduce utility bills. If you look at Hampton Bay ceiling fans you will find they have both these abilities.

Furthermore experts in the field of consumer electronics say that during the colder months a good ceiling fan should be able to draw warm air down from the ceiling and disperse it throughout the room. And during the summer a good ceiling fan is required to draw the warm air upwards from the ground thus allowing for more efficient cooling. Several Hampton Bay fan models with their fan blades design and their ability to reverse the direction the fan blades rotate with the flip of a small switch near the fan motor, provides you with this dual heating/cooling functionality.

When buying a ceiling fan it is also important to consider how smoothly and quietly the fan works. Otherwise you will later find it a great nuisance and problem when the fan starts to make continuous whining noise or wobble while it rotates. In this regards, ceiling fans from Hampton Bay are not only known to provide an energy efficient method of moving air but also operate smoothly and quietly for a long time. Considering these abilities of Hampton Bay, it is a good decision to buy one of their reliable and dependable ceiling fans.

The wide range of ceiling fan styles and sizes available in Hampton Bay is an added advantage of selecting this brand for your indoor and outdoor ceiling fan needs.

New Kitchen and Bathroom Wall Decorating Ideas

Filed under Bathrooms, Decorating, Kitchens | No Comments

If you are bored with the current walls in your house, there are quite a few DIY projects that can help you turn your walls into something creative and beautiful on a very low budget. Though you can easily find ideas for every room of the house, we will just look at the kitchen and bathroom right now.

One of the easiest and quickest things you can do in your kitchen that can alter the entire look is to replace your current backsplash. The Internet has thousands of kitchen backsplash ideas along with detailed instructions for free. Or, you could just use these as ideas to get your own creative juices flowing. You can use practically any material you want such as ceramic tile, glass tile, bricks, rocks, natural stone tile, copper, tin, stainless steel, bronze, crushed seashells, glass blocks and probably any other thing you have thought of using.

Why stop with a backsplash? There are many other ideas for the walls of your kitchen also. Try painting with a new color. Did you know that different colors have different psychological affects on the people that are in the room? Since a kitchen does not usually have large amounts of wall space, colors like red or yellow or orange can be appropriate. Red is a powerful color but it can invoke anger so you don’t want to use too much. Yellow is a cheerful color and can make you feel happy but only if you don’t over do it and orange is an energetic and inspiring color but once again, it is preferable to use in small doses. Green is a great color for any room because it is peaceful and calms people down. You could also consider some faux techniques with your painting and some creative wall hangings or art. Try some decorative hooks and hang your skillets and utensils or aprons and coffee mugs. Brightly colored plates on wire racks are a very nice affect in the kitchen as well.

If you are decorating a bathroom, you probably have a rather small space to work with. Once again, the colors used can have an affect on the people that are in the room so choose wisely. You can also find thousands of creative bathroom wall decorating ideas on the Internet. Though the bathroom is usually considered to be a mostly functional room, we should consider that if we spend a great deal of time each morning inside it getting ourselves ready to face the day, maybe we should decorate it in a way to help us to not only be ready physically, but mentally also. You could go with calming colors or perhaps inspiring, energetic colors. Colors that can make you angry might not be a good choice!

After you finish with your kitchen and bathroom you may be ready to move on to the living room and bedrooms! Whatever room you are tackling, be sure to use your own tastes and imagination to create a beautiful home that reflects your personality that will  be warm and welcoming to all who enter.

Check Geothermal Heat Pump Prices Online

Filed under General Home | No Comments

A heat pump is an important investment for any household, so it pays to get as many quotes as possible for geothermal heat pump prices online.  A geothermal heat pump may be expensive to install, however, it will pay back the initial investment with up to 30 to 40 percent savings in electricity. This also makes them much more environmentally friendly as they help to reduce pollution, CO2 gases and nuclear waste.

A geothermal heat pump has a network of pipes which are placed under the ground rather than in the air. Theses pipes are usually placed about 6 to 8 feet underground, where the temperature is more stable than the above ground air temperature.  This less extreme, constant temperature allows a ground source heat pump to operate efficiently, even when temperatures above ground would make it almost impossible for conventional heat pumps to work. This results in geothermal heat pumps being suitable for any climate.

A geothermal heat pump can also work in reverse in summer. This means it can be used for cooling in summer as well as heating in winter. The heat pump can provide year round heat and humidity control. These systems are also very quiet when compared to conventional air conditioners. A geothermal pump for an average house can cost around $8,000. The drilling for a system can add another $10,000 to $30,000 one of the final cost of the system.

This can seem quite expensive when compared to a Lennox Elite Series XP16 Heat Pump price. These heat pumps come in sizes from 2 to 4 ton and their prices can range from $2,000 to $4,000.  This means a home owner may need 3 to 10 years to pay back the installation costs of a geothermal heat pump, depending on the geographic situation and the cost of electricity.  In simple terms the more you use your heat pump the sooner you will pay back the installation costs.

What Are Plantation Shutters?

They are made with rails, stiles, and most importantly, louvers that can be adjusted to any angle giving you complete control over light and ventilation. Although not always, they are generally constructed with solid woods giving them a natural and quality appearance that is sure to last decades. Shutters are often mounted to the inside of the window frame and since they are made with solid woods, it is generally recommended that you have them custom built for each specific window. Any shutter builder will be able to come to your home, measure your windows, and customize each shutter to fit precisely in the opening.

Benefits Of Shutters
Since learning how to build plantation shutters is extremely difficult, hiring a contractor to custom make your shutters can be expensive. However, if you can afford the investment, you can expect a number of benefits not including their aesthetic appeal and the increase in the value of your home. Some of the function benefits you can expect include:

  • Superior Ventilation – Unlike shades or curtains which have an either opened or closed position, shutters allow you to dial in the louvers to the perfect angle for ventilation. Best of all, if you want your window exposed, shutters are hinged so that they can open completely for ultimate ventilation.
  • Light Control – Similar to the control of ventilation, you can also control light and privacy easily with plantation shutters. By angling the louvers you can block direct sunlight, while still allowing natural light to bathe the room.
  • Versatile – Shutters can be made to fit any window, even hard to manage windows like as a replacement for door blinds on your entryway door windows.

Phoenix Home Security Tips: 3 Different Safes, For Different Uses

Filed under Safety | No Comments

You can put anything in a safe. They are most commonly used to protect important documents, guns and valuables. It is hard to break into a safe and it is important that you are aware of what type of safe you need to protect your assets. If you have a gun you need a gun safe. Don’t think just having your gun laying around is o.k. because it is not. Protect your assets and family get a safe. There are a few different types of safes that a Phoenix security professional would recommend:

First there are Diversion Safes: These “camouflaged” safes blend right into their environments. They are disguised as everyday items that no one would pay much attention to. Often, they are of a smaller size so they make great places to hide cash and small valuables. These are not high security safes, so security officials do not suggest hiding your most precious valuables or extremely large amounts of money in these types of safes. The example to the right shows a wall outlet safe which requires a key to open.

Secondly there are Laptop Safes: Today, laptops have become hot items for burglars to steal. Professionals in the industry state that this is because of their relatively small size and high value. Some people use security straps, but laptop safes are much more effective. You often see them in hotel rooms, but they are also becoming much more frequently used bycollege students who live in dorms and by homeowners.

Finally there are Media Safes: Again, even if you have the best home alarm system, it is highly suggest using a number of security techniques. Some of the most popular safes today are media safes. They are designed to hide and protect various types of digital equipment. They are also typically fire proof, but they keep the temperature lower than traditional fire safes which is preferable for media equipment.

Now there are other types of safes out there but the three above have been recommended by Phoenix home security professionals. It is a good idea to invest time into what you want to invest your hard earned money in. Call and ask around. See what other people are purchasing that has the same needs as you.

Individualized Control In The Home

Filed under General Home | No Comments

As technology advances, the modern family has more and more options about how to run their home.  Creating a unified system for electronics in your home can make for a smooth interactive experience and prevents long days messing with cords and lugging around speakers.  Climate control through radiant ceiling heating allows you to individualize the temperature for each room, while wireless speakers give you the ability to sync up your whole house and backyard to your sound system.

Individualized temperature control is great for the family who can never agree on how warm it should be.  Radiant ceiling heat gives you the option to keep it cool in your bedroom while the kids keep it warm in there’s, or vice versa.  As an added bonus, the rapid heating time allows you to turn the temperature low when you leave a room without having to wait an uncomfortable amount of time to reach the temperature you want again.  This creates both convenience and savings, since you will need less for your monthly electric bill.

Hooking up a set of wireless speakers throughout the house means you can have your music where ever you go.  This is great for relaxing upstairs or providing entertainment for a backyard barbecue.  And while the whole system is linked to your collection, it is also individualized, meaning the family can watch a movie in surround sound in the living room while your teenager listens to his or her music upstairs.  The lack of cords keeps your home looking clean and the synced system allow you to ensure your children are listening to age appropriate music.

In the modern age, it is easy to make your technology work for you.  Taking the time to take advantage of these options will provide you with a more comfortable and personalized home to return to each day.

Basically we have got three different types of walk in shower designs. We have the door less walk in shower, the walk in shower with a step over ledge, the wet room and then these are all separated out by material and their features. The most common choice is the standard walk in shower which is available in a wide range of materials. This style of shower can range from tiny cubicles which are only three and a half feet across.

The very first walk in showers were made like this. After this there were larger tile showers, followed by glass block and marble showers and other exotic materials. In recent years there has been the addition for hand rails and seats for safety and also steam pumps, massaging shower heads, radios, TVs and even telephones in showers. Dry Carpet Cleaners Are Not Always Dry

Filed under Cleaning | No Comments

If you are hiring a dry carpet cleaner then you should know what you are getting. Some carpet cleaners may say that their method is dry when actually they are using moisture. On the other hand, there is a method of dry carpet cleaning which uses almost no moisture. The following are the differences.

Dry Carpet Cleaners:

With true dry carpet cleaning a special powdered cleaner is put down on the carpet. The carpet cleaner will then typically use a machine similar to a floor buffer with a brush attached to it. This thoroughly works the powder into the carpet to do its job. This specialized cleaner surrounds dirt in the carpet so that the soil cannot cling to the fiber. Often times, the powder is simply left in the carpet to be vacuumed up at the next scheduled vacuuming.

Residential carpeting is not very well suited for this type of encapsulation cleaning. The carpeting in most homes is much thicker and will not allow the powder to be easily vacuumed up. This can leave much of the cleaning powder behind which will continue to attract soil and make the carpet looked dirty.

The Drier Carpet Cleaning Method:

Instead of saying dry when they are referring to their services many of these cleaners should use the term low moisture. Steam cleaning usually involves a large amount of moisture with the cleaner trying to blow the dirt off of the carpet fiber and then using vacuum to try to capture all of that water that they used.

Often, these low moisture systems are utilizing cotton bonnets attached to a machine for their cleaning. The carpet cleaners will apply a cleaning solution and work it into the fibers usually with a carpet rake. They will allow the solution to break up soil for a little while and then use the cotton bonnets to absorb the dirty water.

Both of these types of dry carpet cleaners can deliver great results. On the other hand, it is wise to periodically have your carpets steam cleaned in order to remove deep down embedded soils which dry methods often leave behind. If done properly steam cleaning does not have to leave your carpets soaking wet.

Adorning the Kitchen Counter with a Subway Tile Backsplash

Filed under Kitchens | No Comments

Have you ever seen a kitchen counter-top adorned with a subway tile backsplash? Do you want to have the same design in your kitchen too? It’s easy to install them; you don’t even have to hire someone to do it for you. At the end of this article, you ought to learn how to install the tiles on your own. But before we begin, make sure to remove all faucets and face-plaes to clear the area.

Once all obstructions have been eliminated, get a sandpaper and start sanding up the counter-top’s surface. You want a smooth surface to make sure that the bonding mastic will stick. Sanding up will leave dust behind so get a damp sponge and clean those up too. Next, measure the entire area to get an idea of what dimensions you will have to work with.

Before you stick the tiles to the wall, do a simple test first. Lay out all the tiles and check if some cutting need to be done. If so, use a score and snap cutter to cut those that stick out of the counter-top. To keep everything in place, work with one tile at a time; and with enough space for caulking at the base. Use a towel to rub the mastic into place. If the solution dries, take it off and put on some new layer.

Once all the field tiles are done, proceed with the decorative tiles that match your home interior. If you do not have cabinets on your kitchen counter-tap, use bullnose tiles. If notched cuts are to be performed, use a wetsaw.

If all the tiles have been set in place, do not use the counter-top overnight. Let the mastic solution dry. In the morning, apply a thin layer of tile grout mixture; don’t forget to wipe off the excess using a wet sponge. Applying a similar colored caulk to all the edges gets the work all done.

Custom Built Log Homes

Filed under General Home | No Comments

When someone desires a cabin there are two obvious options: purchasing an existing home or a custom built log home. Here are a few considerations to ponder when faced with this choice.

One large advantage of an existing home is there are no hidden costs (hopefully). The house is finished. You can see it first hand. The disadvantage of an existing property is the lack of flexibility. The homeowner can not make any changes to the layout of the home in the building phase.

The most obvious advantage of a custom built log home is the owner can make all of the decisions. From day one they are in control. The biggest disadvantage is the unforeseen expenses. One log home we built a few years ago ended up with a driveway cost of $14,000 instead of the projected $8,500. On another home the logs were not fully pre-cut, so erection time and labor costs were substantially higher.

So how do you know which is the best route for you? One major determinate is budget. If you have a limited budget then an existing home might be the best choice. But what if you can’t find a home you like? Then the best idea is to build a 10% buffer into your budget. Don’t build budget a custom home plan which eats up every penny. So many times people built to the very brink of what they can afford. Instead consider ideas such as adding a garage later, finishing the basement yourself, or purchasing a smaller log cabin kit.

The largest nightmare a homeowner can create for themselves is a half finished home and an exhausted construction loan. At times the homeowners are forced to use credit cards to finish the home. This can be very harmful to them when they go to convert the loan to a standard home loan. Home loans are based on a debt ratio. If you overspend with credit cards then your debt ratio is out of proportion. Then your income may be too low to proceed with the conversion. It is imperative for a homeowner to do accurate cost estimating before beginning the milled or handcrafted log home. And then they must stick to the budget during construction. Sadly, some homeowners have actually ended up walking away from their new homes because they did not match reality with their dreams.

So be smart. Listen to your banker or lending agent and your builder. Create a plan that works for you. Stick to your ‘road map’. Be willing to economize if necessary on things such as flooring, lighting fixtures, and appliances. These items can be replaced in five or ten years, so using less expensive models or material is not a bad idea.

In the end we personally have found custom built log homes to meet our need much better than purchasing existing homes. But going the less challenging route of a completed home is not a poor plan either. You must just decide what option is the best for your budget, personality and desires.

The Pros Outweigh the House Raising Costs

Filed under General Home | No Comments

Raising the elevation of your home can be a good idea if you are located in a FEMA designated flood zone. Many people who did not bother doing this lost thousands of dollars’ worth of home damage during natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina. There are federal grants available which can help you defray the house raising costs, so that you can have this project done immediately. Your house raising contractor should be able to help you with the paperwork to apply for these grants.

Before you start, make sure you speak with at least three different house raising contractors. Make sure you asked him plenty of questions so that you can understand the full scope of the project. Before you finalize and choose a contractor, make sure you also speak with their references so that you can understand whether not they have been able to properly perform tasks without damage with their previous customers’ homes.

The actual cost of raising your home will vary depending on factors such as where you live, whether not building supplies are readily available, the square footage of your home, and the cost for other qualified subcontractors. Keep in mind that this project requires subcontractors such as electricians and plumbers as well. The reason for this is because your service to your home will need to be disconnected before they can start working on digging in a new foundation. This is also very good project to consider if you are going to sell your home. People were going to sell their home can benefit from an additional resale value of increasing the square footage. This is especially true if you own a one floor ranch style house. Even if you own a traditional colonial home you can still benefit from the addition of having a basement. Having this extra square footage can increase your home overall resale value by at least 15% to 24%.

Finding Beds That Don’t Cost The Earth

Filed under Furniture | No Comments

There are a lot of choices that you can make then you go out shopping for new beds. If you have got a growing family then you are going to be looking for more from your bed than a single person or a couple. The beds you buy are going to have to be cheaper, but still match the décor of the room they are going in, they will need to be quite durable and if possible multi functional. In many cases this wont leave you with a lot of options.

Firstly, pretty much every style of bed will be available at all price ranges. When you buy a piece of furniture most of the money you spend is on the raw materials. If you can settle of a lower level of finish, for example, fabric rather than leather for the head and foot boards on your padded sleigh bed, you could save quite a lot of money. The same applies to materials on wooden beds. It is going to cost far less to buy a pine bed than it would cost to buy an oak or cherry framed bed.

So getting a bed that fits your rooms style and your price range is not in fact that hard. So what about beds with storage? There are actually a number of beds with storage available. The two most popular are Ottoman beds and platform beds. Both of these styles of the bed are really elegant, but the Ottoman bed can be quite expensive. You can of course find cheaper Ottomans, but finding a good one is hard. Divan beds come with storage drawers at either side of them and you can even get beds with built in storage at the foot of the bed or book shelves built into the headboard.

There are loads of things that you are able to store in these drawers and compartments. Most people will use them to store things like extra bedding, out of season clothings, their children’s toys or a number of other things, this takes quite a bit of stain off of the other storage in your home, like closets and so on.

Electric Mattress Pad Energy Savings

Filed under Bedding | No Comments

Going to sleep in a cold bed during winter can be quite uncomfortable those first minutes. That is why an electric mattress pad is a great solution for people that do not want to waste electricity on warming up a whole bedroom just to get the bed to a nice and comfy temperature.

You have the option of using an electric heated mattress pad for just warming up your bed prior to sleeping or you could leave it on all night so that a constant temperature is guaranteed. Whatever holds your preference, you can be sure to save on electricity bills if you start heating your bed by using an electric mattress pad instead of turning on the heating in your bedroom.

In case you are wondering, an electric mattress pad is much more energy efficient than an electric blanket. The other advantage is that it is hidden under the bed sheets or comforter so you do not have to worry about a color mismatch with your existing bedroom linen and design. This might seem trivial at first, but imagine a bedroom using an animal print bedding design. It shouldn’t be hard to understand what the advantages of purchasing an electric mattress pad over an electric blanket would be.

Just like mattresses and comforter sets, electric mattress pads come in various sizes.  Some manufacturers even produce mattress pads that will fit any mattress. As a word of warning, should such a universal mattress pad be larger than your mattress, never tuck the ends under the mattress. This would allow for the heat to build up in one single area and may cause burns when touched or a fire in the worst case scenario. The same goes for the electric mattress pad’s controls which often get warm when the mattress is in use. Do not stuff them underneath your pillow or blanket. They should be lying free outside the bed.

These are just a few of the most important tips to consider before going out and buying an electric mattress pad. If used properly, an electric mattress pad will greatly enhance your sleeping experience while at the same time lowering your electricity bill.
