The Benefits of a Miralux Mattress

Filed under Bedding | No Comments

Miralux Mattress is not one of the highly-publicized brands so it is no surprise if you have not heard of it. But there is actually a good reason as to why there is not much publicity surrounding Miralux Mattress. Most brands these days are extremely hyped up by the media so it makes it a lot difficult to determine if the mattress will work for us or if it is all talk. Miralux Mattress is a product of an independent company known as IBC or International Bedding Corporation. They are today’s biggest independent manufacturers of mattresses in the United States. If you’re looking to buy a twin mattress or larger, you should definitely check out Miralux.

The history of Miralux Mattress dates back to 1974. They have spent so much time and have garnered so much experience surpassing various roadblocks to success. While most brands in the industry are a lot older, the youthfulness of Miralux Mattress is actually one of its best characteristics. Most of it is about the capacity to learn from the mistakes that older brands have made.

Miralux Mattress can be found in a lot of good hotels, dormitories, hospitals, and nursing homes. As mentioned, Miralux Mattress feels no need to practice advertisement. They do not want to just convince you about how good they are based on what they say about themselves. A lot of publicity about Miralux Mattress is all from word of mouth.

There are a lot of benefits which led to Miralux Mattress to forego advertising. The primary reason is they do not want their customers to think more about their mattresses than they should. There are no ridiculous claims about how good they are. They also see no need to spend tons of money on paid advertising and this translates to savings for all consumers of Miralux Mattress.

It is plain to see that the highly-advertised mattresses are the ones that cost so much more. They offset their expenses on advertising by making their products more expensive.

Miralux Mattress is all about spending money on improving their products. The consumers can advertise for the brand themselves. Another good thing about Miralux Mattress is that they use micro fiber ticking on their memory foams and memory foam mattress topper queen and king sizes. This is about 50% finer compared to the normal silk.

Miralux Mattress has good temperature control which makes the mattress cooler during hot months and warmer during cold ones. There is also an anti-static mattress line which is good for defeating allergens living inside them. Miralux Mattress is a brand worth trying.

The Many Uses For Daybeds

Filed under Bedding, Furniture | No Comments

When shopping for furniture for a bedroom or an office, you may come across daybeds. Although it may not be an immediate consideration, it can be a really great and functional piece of furniture. These beds are very versatile, and with a few simple ideas, a single daybed can be transformed to serve many other household needs.

Aside from the sleeping aspect, which is of course what daybeds are most often used for, you can also use them as additional seating. With the right coverings, such as a fitted comforter and large pillows, the bed can be transformed in just minutes into a loveseat. This can be great for offices in homes as well as teenagers rooms.  The multi purpose beds can also make use of trundles beneath them. Some trundles will pull all the way up to the height of the daybed mattress making it a large and even sleeping surface. Some trundles will stay low to the ground, which is great for kids who need extra space for sleepovers. This aspect, with the trundles, makes them a great option for guest rooms as well. If you have one guest they can use the daybed, or multiple guests can pull out the trundle for instant sleeping space.

Although the daybed is the same size as the typically twin bed, its unique design allows it to take up less space in the room it is in. Even better is the fact that the space saving design can easily convert into additional sleeping room when needed if a trundle is utilized. There is a large selection of bedding available for daybeds, so covering with the colors you prefer will be no issue. All of the said mentioned aspects make the daybed a great option and a versatile furnishing for several rooms in a home.

Is It the Same Futon Mattress?

Filed under Bedding | No Comments

If you’re looking for a new mattress to sleep on, then you have likely come to the realization that the conventional mattress might be quite a bit overpriced for what you actually get. Sure, some of those mattresses are extremely comfortable, but $1,200 USD for a full? That kind of money could be much better spent on a fine quality futon mattress and all sorts of bedding accessories and covers. You could even have a custom made bed frame to go along with your new futon for that kind of money.

The one thing that gives most people pause when they consider the purchase of a new futon is the quality of the mattress. For some reason, there is still this lingering idea or notion of a flattened mattress in some corner of a dorm room somewhere. Maybe you even slept on such a mattress back in the day. If you did, congratulations for coming back around to the futon again to give it another chance!

Futon mattresses of today are nothing like what they were in the past. Well, that isn’t exactly true, they are similar. What has improved is both their quality and the materials with which they are made. The modern futon mattress is made of much better materials for a longer lasting, supportive mattress. The manufacturers of traditional mattresses have also entered the futon market, giving some much needed competition to the overseas-dominated futon bed world.

It has come a long way from its humble beginnings from the East. Many Asian countries, like Japan, still utilize the futon as one of their primary sleeping arrangements. There have been some Western influences, but it is still quite popular to see the futon mattresses being beaten out in the morning and hung out to air until the next night’s sleep beckons.

How to Buy King Waterbed Sheets

Filed under Bedding | No Comments

King waterbed sheets have a few features that make them different from normal bed sheets. Although it is possible to use regular sheets for some waterbeds, most waterbed mattresses are longer than normal mattresses and special sheet sets are required.

Waterbed sheets generally have added “pockets” to make sure they stay in place. The fitted (bottom) sheet is often attached to the top sheet, which helps to keep the sheets in place at night as you move around the bed in your sleep.

The most popular material for sheets is cotton. Cotton synthetic blends have become more common because they are cheaper than 100% cotton and easier to maintain. When buying cotton sheets, the main feature to look at is the thread count. The higher the count, the softer and smoother the material is and the more comfortable it will feel. Around 250 is a good minimum count for everyday sheets, and the higher you go the better the quality will be and the softer it will feel to the skin. Egyptian cotton is one of the highest quality cottons available and is also more expensive than other types.

Many waterbed owners also swear by silk sheets. Although silk is often considered a luxury material and too expensive for everyday use, it is very durable and long lasting, and can work out to be more cost effective than the cheaper materials. Silk feels very smooth to the touch and keeps you warm in colder weather and cool in the hot summer weather. If you decide to invest in silk sheets, the thread count is again a good indicator of quality.

There is a wide variety of sheet sets available so it is a good idea to do some research before buying. Have a look online and use a waterbed sheets finder to choose the perfect material, size and color for your room.

Your Guide to Luxury Bedding

Filed under Bedding | No Comments

When it comes to interior design, no place in the house should be more suited to your tastes than the bedroom. If you are looking for a simple way to really posh up the room, consider implementing some luxury bedding. Obviously, the bed is the focus of any bedroom, and draping it in the finest sheets and covers can make a dramatic impression.

Changing the look of the room can be as simple as changing the sheets. However, when you are considering investing in luxury sheets the details on the packaging can become very confusing. What is the difference between satin and sateen? What is a thread count and why does it matter? Knowing what you are doing can simplify the purchase, whether you are purchasing luxury bedding online or from your favorite retailer.

There are several types of materials that luxury sheets are usually made of. Slipping into satin sheets is the first thought for many when it comes to luxury bedding. Be careful when purchasing these, because many times they are made from knit acetate. This gives the fabric a nice sheen, but does not make it appealing in the tactile sense.

Satin sheets can be made from nylon, polyester, or silk. While silk is the most expensive and possibly the most comfortable, this fabric is not very durable. Many prefer satin made from polyester as it is easier to care for. However, satin sheets may feel great on your skin initially, but in the warmer months they can get quite uncomfortable. Down is also a great material for bedding, although it is usually reserved for comforters and pillows. Down can also become quite hot in the warmer months, so consider your climate.

When you choose what type of bedding you want for your home, you should always put comfort first. The sheets you use could mean the difference between tossing and turning and a good night’s sleep.

Gothic Style vs. Country Style Oak Bedroom Furniture

Filed under Bedding, Furniture | No Comments

When you go shopping for oak bedroom furniture, which type do you like: the gothic style or the country style? The gothic style offers plenty of Old World sophistication, especially with the classic favorites like the Victorian sub-style and Queen Anne sub-style. On the other hand, the country style has its strong points, with its strong clean lines.

However, selecting the style of oak furniture is not just about your taste. These two major schools of furniture style have some very special properties when placed into your bedroom, properties which are not obvious in the showroom. Gothic-styled bedroom furniture tends to give a heavier feeling, especially the massive and ponderous Victorian-type furniture. This weightiness has the tendency to make a room feel small and cramped. It might even make you feel small, if your ego is not strong enough. The more graceful, arching lines of Queen Anne-type furniture is not nearly so weighty, but can still have a noticeable effect if you buy it in dark colors.

Gothic-style oak bedroom furniture sets are best bought for large bedrooms. Because they make the empty spaces seem smaller, they can make an over-large bedroom feel more cosy. This is the opposite effect of country-styled furniture. The country style and its major variations, the rustic and Mission styles, prize simplicity. The original country style is the Mission style, and it was a reaction against the heavy and ornate Victorian-style furniture that was its immediate predecessor. It eschewed the complex moldings and ostentatious carvings that were common, instead preferring to leave large surfaces in their original condition, with only clean lines along the edges used for decoration.

If you are buying beds and wardrobes made from the highest grade oak wood, you may want to choose unpainted (i.e. finished with wax or clear varnish) country-style furniture. The large expanses of “plain” wood show off the fine grains of the high quality quarter-sawn oak boards beautifully. If you have a larger bedroom, you may want something with a darker stain. If you have a smaller, cramped bedroom, get unstained white oak to make your bedroom feel more spacious.

With modern precision manufacturing processes, it costs the factory pretty much the same amount of money to make both styles of furniture. When you buy from furniture stores, how much you pay depends on the brand. You can get both styles. However, if you get your oak furniture custom-made, you can only get it in the country style. Not many furniture craftsmen have enough skill to hand make the complex carvings that characterize the gothic-styled beds and wardrobes.

Oak furniture does not come cheap. Properly cared for, it can last you a lifetime. Make sure you choose the right style for you as well as your bedroom.

How Long Should I Keep a Feather Pillow?

Filed under Bedding | No Comments

Feather pillows can last for at least five or six years if you take care of them properly. Contrary to popular belief, it is really not that hard to protect and clean your feather pillows to ensure they will provide many years of comfort. Here are a few guidelines for protecting and cleaning your feather pillows so they will last as long as possible.

The longevity of a feather pillow will in part depend upon what type of feathers it is stuffed with. A pillow filled with all down will last longer that one with regular duck, goose or chicken feathers. Down feathers are actually shaped like round clusters that are easily fluffed back up into their original shape. Regular feathers tend to lie flat after a while and eventually will not provide a lot of comfort. So, even though down feather pillows are more expensive, you will get your money’s worth in the long run since they will last longer.

To promote longevity, use both a pillow protector and a pillowcase over your feather pillow. This will help keep the natural oils from your skin away from the pillow. And, since the pillow will not get as dirty, you will not need to wash it as often to keep it clean. Wash your feather pillows on the gentle cycle using a front loading machine, if possible. Don’t use too much laundry detergent and if you have time, run them through the rinse cycle a couple times. Make sure that you dry the pillows thoroughly, to avoid any build up of mildew.

A daily fluffing of your pillows will also help them to retain their loft over the years. You could also throw them in the dryer for a few minutes during any humid times of the year to freshen them up and remove any excess moisture. Follow these tips and the manufacturers cleaning guidelines and your feather pillows should last you a long time.

Why Use a King Size Duvet Cover?

Filed under Bedding | No Comments

Some people may wonder why they should go to the trouble of using a king size duvet cover when the duvet or comforter looks great as it is. Well, there are actually many advantages to using duvet covers, as Europeans have known for a long time. The cover will protect the bedding inside, is usually easier to clean and the duvet cover can be changed when the room is redecorated.

If you have purchased a nice duvet or down comforter, you will want to protect it from dirt and stains. Duvet covers provide an extra layer of protection so that the bedding inside is not exposed to as much wear and tear and does not get as soiled. This is especially helpful if you have pets that like to spend time on the bed, or if you are the type of person who likes to watch TV and have a snack in your bedroom.

King sized duvets and comforters are pretty large, and can be very awkward to clean. Many will not fit into a home washing machine, which means that you have to take a trip to a commercial laundrymat or dry cleaner whenever you wish to clean your bedding. If you use a duvet cover, you can just pop it in the washing machine and not worry about cleaning the comforter itself very often.

Another advantage of using duvet covers is that you can easily change the look of your bed when it is time to redecorate the room. Keep your favorite warm comforter and just find a new duvet cover to match the new color scheme. Some people like to have a couple different duvet covers and switch back and forth every once in a while.

Now that more people are taking advantage of duvet covers, retailers have been carrying a lot more variety. You can find many different printed and solid color duvet covers to fit any sized bed, so besides getting one for the master bedroom, you can outfit your entire home. Matching sets including a bed skirt and pillow shams are also available for those who like an easy, coordinated look in their bedroom. Try a duvet cover – you will be glad you did!

Practical Storage Solutions with Fitted Bedroom Furniture

Filed under Bedding, Furniture | No Comments

When you look to redesign your bedroom, one solution that can be called practical, irrespective of your budget, is fitted bedroom furniture. This type of furniture does not intrude or take up space in the room like stand alone pieces. The stuff you have can be easily stored leaving it with a clean look. If you feel that such furniture will cost a fortune, you can lay your mind at rest. The solutions can be customized to suit the budget you want to spend.

The choices you make in using such type of fittings are many. This depends upon the size of the room you have. If enough space is available in your bedroom, you can look for one of the more extravagant types that are available. On the contrary, if you face a lack of space, you can take one of the compact modules that are available. The options offered in both types are various. You could have fitted furniture with sliding doors that will save plenty of space. After all, the idea of having such furniture is to leave enough space without having things protruding out. Therefore, the choice of having sliding or conventional doors depends upon the type of space you are able to spare for the same.

Sliding doors will probably suit your purpose, if you are living in one of the box type apartments. These fittings can also be used to convert lofts into storage areas. As mentioned earlier, the best part about fitted bedroom furniture is the fact that you are able to save space, leaving your room tidy and clean.

How to Take Care of Your Single Mattress

Filed under Bedding | No Comments

When you buy a house, it is important to regularly make maintenance work in order to maintain its value and protect your investment. It is exactly the same thing when it comes with your mattress. Mattresses are not cheap. And a good mattress is an investment on your health and comfort.

Most mattress manufacturers would recommend replacing your mattress in five to seven years. But with proper care, the single mattress you bought should provide you with comfortable and relaxing sleep for at least ten years.

1. Using a mattress pad will give your mattress an additional layer of protection. Although mattress pads are generally used when the existing mattress has become worn and uncomfortable, placing a washable mattress pad between the sheets and the mattress will protect the mattress if you spill something on your bed.

2. Accumulated dirt and dusts might make turn your mattress into a Petri dish. Your biggest concern here is dust mites. It is therefore highly recommended that you clean your mattress every 6 months. Using a vacuum and upholstery cleaner is recommended.

3. It is not comfortable to sleep on a lumpy mattress. Mattresses become lumpy because when you sleep on the mattress, your body leaves an imprint. And overtime, the imprint will settle on the mattress. By flipping and rotating the mattress on a regular basis, you should be able to avoid your body imprint settling in. It is recommended that you rotate the mattress every three months and that you flip it every six months.

4. I think it goes without saying that having kids jumping on top of the mattress will definitely shorten the mattress’ life span.

And there you have it. By following the above mentioned recommendations, you should be able to extend the years you get to enjoy your mattress. Check out Talalay Latex Mattress Depot for more information.

Comparing Between Custom and Fitted Bedroom Furniture: Which Is Better?

Filed under Bedding, Furniture | No Comments

When you only want to outfit your bedroom with an additional shelf or any other single piece of furniture, you can only buy flat pack furniture. But when you are buying an entirely new set of bedroom furniture and need to maximize the usage of your available bedroom space, you have the choice of fitted bedroom furniture set and custom bedroom furniture. They both have their own strengths and weaknesses, and it would be well for you to know them so that you can make the best decision possible.

Looks/Style

When buying bedroom furniture, looks play an important part. When you buy a set of fitted bedroom furniture, you know exactly what it will look like because you can see a sample in the showroom (or at least in the catalogue). Unfortunately, this is not the case when buying customized bedroom furniture. Although you can see samples of his previous work, you cannot be sure that the carpenter you hire will keep to the same standards as the past.

In addition to that, most carpenters and furniture craftsmen cannot or will not create gothic styled furniture with fanciful carvings and moldings. These types of furniture designs require too much time and skill to make, and the few with enough skill to do it right will charge a premium. That means you are largely restricted to simpler styles like the Mission, Country or Rustic styles.

Fitting Odd-Shaped Bedrooms

Most modern homes are built following one of several cookie-cutter designs, and will not have odd-shaped bedrooms. Most fitted bedroom furniture can be installed with only a few adjustments needed. However, older homes may have bedrooms that have “strange” shapes or dimensions. So might attics and basements converted into bedrooms. In such cases, it may not be possible to install common fitted furniture designs. Custom bedroom furniture may be needed to make the best use of the available space.

Cost

Fitted bedroom furniture is cheaper and customized bedroom furniture is more expensive. Is that what you are thinking? If you live in a city or large town, you may be right. The cost of labor to make custom furniture is certainly very high … assuming you can even find a custom furniture maker.

However, those living in small towns face the opposite situation. Cost of labor is relatively affordable, while the cost of buying branded fitted furniture becomes relatively higher. Not only that, but the local furniture shop will only have a limited selection of different designs.

The greatest advantage of buying customized furniture in a small town is that the furniture can be made of good quality solid wood. Custom pine bedroom furniture is stronger, longer lasting and more beautiful than even branded fitted furniture. The price is also comparable because you do not have to pay for the branding and other overheads.

Availability

Which is easier to find: fitted furniture or customized furniture? Nowadays, you can find fitted bedroom furniture anywhere. However, the range of designs in a small town furniture shop will be very limited when compared to the range available in the city. With custom bedroom furniture, you face the opposite problem. On the other hand, just because you live in a city does not mean you cannot visit a neighboring small town to look for a good carpenter, does it?

But one thing is clear. You can normally buy and get your fitted bedroom furniture installed within a few weeks. But custom furniture takes longer. First, he needs to clear up his current projects. It also takes time for you to make your desires clear to the furniture maker. Then he needs to make the new furniture and then install it in your bedroom.

So which one should you buy? Obviously, it depends on your circumstances. Do you live in an older home or a modern apartment? Do you live in the city or in a small town? What is your budget? What style of furniture do you want – something fancy or something simple?

Budget Canopy Bedding: Style at Low Cost

Filed under Bedding, Budgeting | No Comments

When I was young my parents went through a period of having very little money. Interestingly we were still a pretty trendy family, though I say so myself, all ways well dressed and with a stylish home. There was only one reason for this and that was my mother, who had great taste and more importantly understood the importance of accessorizing. She was able to make homemade accessories cheaply that made everything look five times classier than it really was.

Many people underestimate the importance of accessories especially when it comes to interior designs. It’s all too easy to get distracted by the big expensive pieces of furniture that one imagines will be the focal point of the room. A four poster canopy bed is a great example of this. Yes it is a big piece of furniture and it will draw the eye, but for the effect to look right the focus needs, actually, to be on the canopy bedding. It is the choice of lines, pillows and covers etc that will make or break the complete look. If you just focus on the bed itself and then stick it in the middle of your bedroom with out choosing decent bedding the result will be less than pleasing.

Quite a few of the modern canopy beds for sale in the shops are quite minimalist in their design which is perfect as it then allows you to add the finishing touches which will make your bedroom unique. Just as my mother did don’t be afraid to get hold of a sewing machine and make your own canopy bed curtains. There are some really pretty fabrics out there that you can find either online or at your local haberdashers so check them out before buying something ready made. The arts and crafts movement is really coming to the fore again so keep your cheque book in your pocket and go for originality.

The Joy of an Electric Mattress Pad

Filed under Bedding | No Comments

Whenever the weather is cool, climbing into a cold bed is not always as welcome at the end of a busy day as it ought to be. Even though the sheets are soft and the quilts are piled high, just knowing that you are going to be good and chilled until it all warms up can be enough to make you stay up too late and be cranky the following day.   A good electric mattress pad can ease those thoughts and make your cozy bed more welcome on cold nights.

Rather than using a hot water bottle that will eventually leak or a small electric heating pad that just doesn’t heat the entire bed, using a mattress pad that has safe electric heating wires running through it heats the entire bed at once. If you only want one side to heat, that is also an option, providing you have one with dual heating controls.

You don’t even have to leave it on for very long, or even overnight to be warm. Simply turn it on for just a few minutes before you go to bed, and you will climb into covers that are delightfully warm rather than bitterly chill. Once you have the bed warmed up, you can simply turn it off or adjust the temperature and you will be warm all night. Many of them even allow you to heat only one area of your body, no more icicle toes for you!

Mattress pads are often preferred over electric blankets for several reasons. For starters, everyone knows that heat rises. Allowing the heat to rise from underneath heats you all the way around. Unlike blankets, once the bed is made with one of these, it won’t slip and slide or fall off the bed.

When morning arrives, you will find that you had a very restful night in your heated bed that was just exactly what you needed, without raising the heating bill. There is nothing more joyful than a good nights’ rest, particularly on a very cold night.

A New Parents Guide to Baby Bedding

Filed under Bedding | No Comments

If you have never purchased bedding for a crib before, there are some differences from purchasing bedding for a regular bed. While most bedding sets for a regular bed contain, a comforter, bed skirt and pillow shams, a bedding set for a crib generally contains, a crib sheet, bed skirt and bumper pad as well as a quilt or comforter.

The bumper pad fits inside the crib above the mattress and is made to cushion the sides of the crib. There is controversy over the use of bumper pads, but they are still generally included with a bedding set.

As with adult bedding, all pieces of the baby bedding set are made to match or coordinate with each other. The sheet that is include is a fitted sheet. A top sheet is never used on a baby bed.

You will find that there is a huge variety of colors, styles and themes to choose from. There are character themed sets, such as Winnie the Pooh crib sets as well as themes based on favorite nursery rhyme characters. You will also find themes based on a variety of baby animals, the alphabet, flowers, bugs and sports along with a host of other themes. In addition to these you will find old favorites such as gingham bedding as well as new favorites like John Deere nursery bedding.

Organic baby bedding is increasing in popularity and you will find many organic selections. Baby bedding costs are as varied as the selections, prices are all over the map. Prices for bedding sets range from the extremely reasonable at less than one hundred dollars to the outrageous of several thousand dollars.

For this reason, it is wise to keep your budget in mind before you begin to shop. Locally you will find selections of baby bedding in specialty baby stores as well as department and discount stores. In addition to local retailers, many companies offer baby bedding for online purchase.

Are Discount Mattresses Necessarily Cheap?

Filed under Bedding | No Comments

In the world of discount mattresses it is important to distinguish the difference between those that are simply sold at a reduced cost and those that leave your back tired and sore due to poor craftsmanship. What holds true about the word “cheap” in most industries does so in the discount mattress business as well. Namely, that “cheap” does not have to mean “inferior.” To be sure there are mattresses for sale that indeed are inferior in every way. Regardless of how little one pays for such a mattress, it seems like too much, especially in the middle of a long night of no sleep or a day filled will lower back pain.

The good news is that quality need not be sacrificed whether you make your purchase at a mattress discounter, department store, or online. If you are in the market for a discount mattress set you will find quality products and services can be found at premium and discount stores alike. The idea that because a business sells discount mattresses means you will get treated poorly either with the product, service, or both is nonsense. This is not any truer than the claim that you will get quality products, service, or both at a premium provider. A good example of this is one retailer of discount mattresses has all potential customers first fill out a survey so the sales staff can better understand what the buyer wants/needs in their mattress. Most consumers would have a difficult time finding this kind of attention to detail at any retailer, including premium outlets. Fact is, what you are more likely to get at the premium outlet is a price that is premium, and average service.

In fact, one will find upon searching for discount mattresses that often the supposed discount mattresses are the same high quality national brand names, only reduced in price for a variety of reasons. However, they have a lower price, these discount mattresses had to meet company standards prior to being shipped.

Then how do they end up on showroom floors at the local mattress discounter costing less than they do at other vendors? Usually the most common reason for the price differences has more to do with internal agreements made by the manufacturer with each retailer than anything else. Commonly the motivating factor for the smaller price tag is the retailer has agreed to purchase a larger inventory from the manufacturer so they are given a more preferred price than their competitor down the street. This is one way brand name mattresses can be sold as discount mattresses to the customer.

Another way that high quality bedding can be sold as discount mattresses is by the retailer becoming an “exclusive” dealer of a certain brand name. The willingness of the retailer to limit the brand choices they offer customers is offset by price reductions from the manufacturer. The manufacturer is essentially paying the seller to reduce competition by refusing to secure agreements with other companies that would provide discount mattresses.

Some of the brands selling as discount mattresses include Sealy, Serta, Stearns & Foster, and Tempur-Pedic just to name a few. These are hardly names associated with poorly crafted mattresses. When in the market for a new mattress one need not feel that discount mattresses are cheap in quality, only less expensive.

A Futon Bed For The Guest Room

Filed under Bedding | No Comments

from the staff of Your Next Futon

When you are in the market for a new bed in the guest room, consider buying a futon bed. We’re all trying to save money these days and a futon is a great economical addition to the house.

As you probably know, futons started out with a simple design — usually a wooden base and a simple mattress. These days they are more elaborate. There is even a futon bunk bed design! So finding the right style for the guest room is easy.

First, as with any furniture shopping, set your price before you start. If you don’t, you will be swayed into spending more than you want either by a salesman or buy your own desire for bigger and better.

You can find a good futon for less than $300. It is nice that you are not buying a mattress that needs to be super-duper because this is a guest room. No one is going to be sleeping on the bed night after night. So the mattress (which for a regularly used futon will matter the most) is less important. That means you can spend less money.

Futon beds are perfect for a guest room because they are convertible. They can spend 99% of the time as a couch and then, when you need it, it becomes a bed. How much more econimical can you get? This is also why the futon bunk bed design is so great. It is perfect for the kids’ room. He can sleep up top and below is a couch until he has a friend sleep over. A bunk bed could look a little weird in the guest room, but it might be another good option. If you have an extra television or game console in the guest room, the bunk bed gives you that playful dorm room feel that might work in your house.

You might spend $200 on a guest bed, so why not consider buying options with a futon bed? You can keep it as a couch, if for no other reason than it gives you more room in the guest room. Beds are so boring and stationary — at least with a futon, you can have a versatile room.

Bedding Ensembles For More Beautiful Bedrooms

Filed under Bedding | No Comments

We would all love a perfect bedroom, one which we look at and feel immediately relaxed and away from the cares of the world. Unfortunately our far from perfect bedroom is sometimes part of those cares. It is just that everyday life sometimes gets in the way of interior design and we don’t find time to redecorate or we find our bedroom has become a dumping ground for all sorts of junk we could not find anywhere else to put.

Sometimes we just have to take the bull by the horns and decide to do something about our room and a great place to start is with a bedding ensemble. By that I mean if you can find a bedding ensemble to fall in love with it is the perfect spring board to a wonderful room because one thing leads to another. Suddenly we feel it is worthwhile to tidy up and get rid of the clutter and actually put the pile of laundered clothes away instead of leaving them on the bedroom chair.

You see a bedding ensemble gives us an easy means of having an attractive bed which means we feel like making it every morning and don’t want to spoil it with whatever else is going on in the room. Before long we are not just tidying our bedroom but also getting out paint charts and holding carpet and curtain colors against the duvet cover, comforter or pillow sham to see if they will go together. And once we have a color scheme and know what we would like for our bedrooms that is half the battle. With new bedding to motivate us, we will finally order the items that we need to transform our room and engage whatever professionals we need to carry out the work we can not do or do not have time for ourselves.

How do I know this? It happened to me!

Flannel Sheets: Some Common Misconceptions

Filed under Bedding | No Comments

When you are living in a location whereby it is often hit with cold weather, getting a set of flannel bedding becomes a necessity. It could keep you warm and cozy from the harsh weather and this is why flannel sheets have become well-liked by a huge group of people. However, there are several misconceptions that people have regarding these cozy sheets and it will be clarified within this article.

Misconception 1: They don’t retain warmth

This is not true because there are different levels of quality and thickness on the market. The lower quality ones are those that are lighter and it often doesn’t provide you with much warmth. In fact, if you purchase any low quality bedding, you will be getting the same result. Therefore, the fault doesn’t lie in the sheets but in the quality that you choose to buy. Try getting a thicker and heavier flannel sheet if you are someone who is overly sensitive to cold.

Misconception 2: They pilling easily

Pilling occurs when the sheets are washed frequently which result in small flurry ball appearing on the surface of the sheets. In the past, I would have agreed with this statement but now the problem has been rectified. Manufacturers have factored in this issue and now most sets are pill resistant.

Misconception 3: It is difficult to judge the quality

Once again, this is not true. While you may be used to one method of judging the quality of sheets flannel simply needs to be judged differently.  But it is not at all difficult. Typical bedding uses thread count as an evaluation for the quality but flannel bedding uses weight as the factor to differentiate its quality. A normal flannel fitted sheet should be around 4 ounces per yard while a quality one should be at least 6 ounces. Therefore, you need to be careful if the sheets are below 4 ounces because the quality is much lower.

Now that you have a better understanding of this cozy bedding option, start preparing a few flannel sheet sets for your family. Remember to check for the quality of it before purchasing to enjoy a good night sleep during winter.  They are available in every size you could imagine, from California King to a tiny flannel crib sheet for your baby.  This winter, the whole family can be warm!
