Outdoor Chaise Lounge Cushions: A Great Way To Relax In The Summer

Filed under Cushions | No Comments

Originally spelled “chaise longue” in the native French tongue, a chaise lounge cushion (or long chair in English) is a chair-shaped couch that is long enough to support the legs.  It has a raised head rest for ample support while reclining, and is best suited for stretching out.  There are different varieties of this cushion, but the one we shall focus on are outdoor chaise lounge cushions.  Especially in the summer months, it’s great to have an outdoor chaise lounge cushion for you to stretch out on and enjoy the warm weather.   These aren’t just great for the patio, but even better next to the swimming pool, so you can go for a dip right after relaxing on the cushion.

Chaise lounge outdoor cushions have not been around too long, at least not as long as the original chaise lounge, which was intended for indoor use back in the 18th century.  This was then considered a very luxurious type of furniture that only the rich and famous could afford, but as time passed, the chaise lounge would spread out to English and American culture – albeit mostly for indoor use.  These days, outdoor chaise lounge chair cushions are by far the most popular variety available, and the ones most know about.

Our best recommendation when buying such a cushion is to go for Sunbrella chaise lounge cushions.  This fabric is easy to clean and easy to maintain, and comes in a wide range of colors and designs.  This alone is good reason to choose Sunbrella as the fabric for your chaise lounge cushion, rather than acrylic, olefin or polyester.  While these fabrics are all very weather-resistant, particularly under the warm rays of the sun, Sunbrella does the trick better than these other fabrics, making it our top choice for chaise cushion fabric.

The chaise lounge cushion itself comes in different designs that go well with outdoor use.  There are outdoor chaise cushions with double headrests, those with separate footrests, and those with armrests attached to them.  For a better idea of how these outdoor chaise lounge cushions differ from one another, a quick online search could produce you a wealth of results, or you can visit your nearest store to make your choice.  With the summer in full swing, it’s about time  to have one of these chaise lounge cushions in your patio, or better yet, in your pool if you have one.

Be Prepared And Stay Stylish With Replacement Cushions For Outdoor Furniture

Filed under Cushions | No Comments

Outdoor cushions, regardless of how they are used or where they are used, are prone to wear and tear. Even those cushions which are advertised as weather resistant do give in eventually, and suddenly you find yourself groping for your wallet, trying to think of a way not to spend much on buying replacement seat cushions for outdoor furniture. Well, fear not. The Internet is a vast resource filled with sites advertising and selling replacement cushions, and it doesn’t necessarily mean a big investment if the time comes that you do need replacement cushions for outdoor furniture.

May it be a chair or seat cushion, or some special fabric like a Sunbrella cushion, there’s a replacement cushion for each and every type available online. If you want to feel and test the cushions out for yourself, then dropping by your local department stores like Wal-Mart or Target would be a good idea too. But rather than wait for your cushions to be actually damaged, we highly recommend buying them months before the end of their expected life span, say, about one or two months earlier. That way you’re always prepared in case your cushions choose the wrong time to bid farewell.

Among the several online sites for replacement chair cushions for outdoor furniture, two of our best recommendations are Hampton Bay and Patio Pads. Their respective websites show vast collections of replacement cushions in different colors, shapes and designs. This is very useful because it allows you to match the design of the cushion with the overall look of your patio. There are even replacement cushions for outdoor wicker furniture available in some sites! But focusing on those two particular online merchants, Hampton Bay is well known for their ability to make great custom replacement cushions, while Patio Pads has been in existence for 43 years. We suggest checking these two retailers out for yourself.

Once you’ve made your choices and done some shopping around, we urge you not to stay complacent and think your cushions aren’t going to give in, not for a long, long while. There are several factors that could warp your cushion out of shape or turn its color faded. We believe it’s best that even if your current cushions are looking and working out fine, having a few backups that could eventually serve as replacement cushions for your outdoors and patio could go a long way.

Rocking Chair Cushion Sets: Not Just For The Aged

Filed under Cushions | No Comments

Ask anybody on the street the first thing or people they think about when the words “rocking chair” are mentioned. For certain they are going to mention their grandparents, or people at old folks’ homes. Indeed the rocking chair has become a symbol of being aged and/or infirm, but with the right rocking chair cushion sets, they can be used by anybody aged one to one hundred without them feeling the least bit old.

Yes, this may sound hard to believe. Rocking chairs suddenly becoming hip and trendy? Well, not really, because if they were, then we would be talking about a Bizarro World. Still, looking at a lot of these outdoor rocking chair cushion sets in the market, you wouldn’t guess from afar that they were meant to be used as support for rocking chairs. There are many designs available for the rocking chair cushion set, including garden and floral designs that fit in well with your patio, slip resistant “deluxe cushions” that provide stronger back support, and so many other different ways to make a boring, old-looking rocking chair “rock out”, pardon the pun. Popular materials for these cushions include cotton, synthetic and polyester.

If rocking chair cushions sets aren’t exactly your thing, you can go for a simple rocking chair pad, and many are available online, through Carousel Designs, Amazon.com and JC Penney, just to name a few major retailers. Rocking chair pads are usually made of cotton with polyester filling and add extra support to the bottom of the rocking chair. But they don’t do the job as well as rocking chair cushions – these cushions support the entire upper body and provide extra comfort for anyone who is using the rocking chair. Do not mistake them as simply a means to make a rocking chair look trendy – their main goal, we should remember, is to provide additional comfort.

A final point to be illustrated here is somehow related to the last. Most people sitting on a rocking chair for the first time would not find it comfortable at first. Extended stays on the chair would, in fact, make their backs hurt. But how about if they try sitting on a rocking chair with a cushion on it? Now that’s a lot more like it, they would say. With an indoor or outdoor rocking chair cushion set, the young and the old alike could enjoy the soft, swaying rocking motion without having to suffer any back pains or problems in the end.

Relax Even More With Comfortable Bench Cushions

Filed under Cushions | No Comments

Whether savoring the foliage of spring or the warmth of the summer sun, sitting on a bench is a relaxing activity that can be enjoyed by one person by him or herself, by two, or by a group of people.  The same thing applies when sitting on an indoor bench and watching TV or playing the piano.  But sitting too long on a bench can lead to dreaded rear-end muscle aches and cramps.  That isn’t an enjoyable thing to have at all.  Not to worry, though.  Bench cushions are readily available to add extra comfort and eliminate cramping, and at less than fifty dollars to buy one, are very affordable as well.  Here are some tips we can offer before going out and buying a bench cushion.

For  outdoor bench cushions, it is important that the material used is as weather resistant as you can get.  Though for maintenance’s sake you should keep any outdoor bench cushion inside in case of bad weather, the elements can be a fiercer foe than one can imagine, with regards to cushions.  Sunbrella is a particularly good choice for fabric, because it is resistant to both water and mildew, and its color doesn’t fade due to its Colorfast technology.

Indoor bench cushions, on the other hand, are an area where you don’t need to spend extra for fancy fabrics or take special precautions due to the weather.  Here you can be picky when it comes to styles and designs, and prioritize comfort over durability.  Elements such as dust will play a part in the wear and tear, but not half as much as sun, rain, or snow.  There’s a treasure trove of designs to choose from for your indoor bench cushion.  Animal or Oriental prints are popular for living rooms, while dining room bench cushions could benefit from something more colorful and less on neutral colors.

Cushions are also available for other surfaces around the house that aren’t exactly conventional benches.  For instance, you can get a piano bench cushion and enjoy more comfort and relaxation while playing music in your living room.  But when you look at the long and the short of the bench cushion business,  you simply cannot do without them, as they provide comfort and relaxation and help you avoid those dreaded after effects of sitting on a bench for too long.  Just make sure to give them proper care, and your bench cushions can last longer without being replaced.

Cleaning Your Patio Chair Cushions Can Be Easy

Filed under Cushions | No Comments

Patio chair cushions are different from indoor cushions mainly because they need more cleaning and maintenance.  Seasonal cleaning, in fact – as some believe – is essential if you own cushions for patio chairs.  It’s a small sacrifice in order to maintain your cushions in the best shape possible and subsequently lengthen their lifespan for years.  While this all may seem like hard work and dissuade a select few from even wanting to buy a patio chair cushion, it’s actually very simple, with a few easy steps usually needed to keep those cushions in the best of shape.

Usually patio chair cushions are to be kept inside for winter storage during the harsher months of December and January.  Once spring comes along, remove the cushions from the covers and clean them with a mild detergent and water.   We suggest washing the covers separately in a washing machine for best results.   Gently scrub the cushions, particularly along the parts that seem the dirtiest, then rinse them with just the right amount of clean water.  Dry the cushions afterwards for a few hours or until totally dried out.  This same process applies in almost any case your patio cushions get dirty in any way.

For mildewed outdoor patio chair cushions, the process is a bit more testy as it requires some special cleaning agents to be used, but it’s still relatively simple.  Mix one quart of warm water with one teaspoon of detergent and one teaspoon of borax.  Then soak both sides of your patio cushion with the special mixture, and wait until it has penetrated the mildew spores.  This may take about 15 minutes.  After which, scrub the entire cushion gently, and rinse the cushion with clean water.    Just as you would do in any other situation, dry the cushions thoroughly, usually for a few hours.

Then again, prevention can sometimes be better than cure.  Several fabric protectors are available that can help your patio chair seat cushions last longer against dirt.  And there are also special fabrics, such as Sunbrella, that are specifically mildew resistant, and retain color much better than ordinary fabrics.  And it also helps to proactively store your cushions inside before harsh weather – may it be heat, snow or heavy rains – would strike.  But more likely than not, patio cushions will get dirty, and will need to be cleaned.  At the end of the day, it’s still better than spending for replacement patio chair cushions.

The Many Uses Of Round Cushions

Filed under Cushions | No Comments

The circle is, as many would agree, a very useful shape.  It symbolizes balance and symmetry, as well as flexibility.  Likewise, the round cushion is a type of cushion that is more versatile than its polygonal counterparts.  Round cushions are probably the most popular cushion when classified by shape, and customers buy them in bulk for their chairs, stools, couches and even benches.  Depending on how you’re going to use the cushion, they can cost anywhere from $20 to $100 for the most part, but are generally very affordable, and may we repeat, very useful.

Usually the first function that would come to mind would be as a cushion for your bar stool.  In most nightspots, round bar stool cushions keep late night drinkers warm and comfortable.  Bar stools, of course, are a staple at homes as well.  While there are square-shaped bar stool cushions available, a round cushion would look much more pleasant on your bar stool.  Maybe it’s because it’s the traditional shape to begin with for a bar stool cushion, but having sat on many a bar stool ourselves, we certainly prefer the round-shaped cushions.

But more common than the bar stool are simple round chair cushions that can be used in dining rooms and living rooms alike.  The fact that they go against the usual shape of the seat area gives one a feeling that he or she has more room to operate and move around.  The round chair cushion can also be found outdoors – outdoor round cushions are very common in patios and near the poolside, and both indoor and outdoor cushions of this shape come in different styles and variations on the round shape to choose from.

Searching for “round “ and “cushion” online in any combination should unveil quite an impressive selection of websites to choose from.  Though there are no specialized sites we know of that exclusively sell these cushions, furniture related websites have special areas devoted to the round cushion.   That’s because demand for these cushions is very high as compared to square or rectangular cushions.  A lot of people feel they look more attractive and feel more useful, and can be used for so many purposes around the house.  But be sure to take the necessary care in maintaining your cushions – clean them whenever you can and have them replaced if need may be, preferably before they’re due to be replaced.  That way, your round shaped cushions can enjoy longer service time and more functionality.

The Medical Wonders Of The Roho Cushion

Filed under Cushions | No Comments

Before the Roho Cushion was invented, there was a man named Robert Graebe.  Robert H. Graebe was an electrical engineer by trade.  But when he was assigned to work at a hospital, he found a greater calling – one to help alleviate pressure sores usually caused by long bed stays or wheelchairs.  A few years later, Graebe came up with Roho Dry Flotation Technology, so named because his cushions would simulate water-like properties despite not being constructed with any liquids.  It would only be in 1997 when the Airhawk, an early Roho air cushion, was launched in an attempt to give motorcycle riders comfort and cushioning for those bumpy rides.

Currently, Roho is best known as a manufacturer of wheelchair cushions and various other cushions designed to make life easier for wheelchair-bound individuals, or those chronically suffering from different kinds of pressure sores.  Roho wheelchair cushions, in particular, have received praise from users all throughout the world.  The Hybrid Elite Cushion, for instance, is a Roho wheelchair cushion that improves pelvic alignment and lower extremity positioning, thus improving one’s sitting posture.  It also incorporates the same Roho Dry Flotation technology that their other cushions feature, not only alleviating pressure sores but making it easier for one to transfer in and out of their wheelchair.

A more recognizable Roho cushion is the Roho High Profile Cushion, better known as their High Profile Quadtro Select Cushion.  The cushion’s ISOFLO memory control is built along the same lines as a memory foam cushion, but is knob-operated, allowing easier shape fitting capacity with the user seated.  Best of all, you don’t have to sacrifice that all-important skin protection when using this cushion.  You can get optimum stability and positioning without aggravating any pressure sores.  All this, thanks to ISOFLO memory control and Roho Dry Flotation technology.

For maintenance purposes, there are a few Roho cushion covers to choose from, including their Heavy Duty Cover and their Universal Cover.  The Heavy Duty Cover is recommended for everyday maintenance, protecting the cushion from wear and tear, as well as protecting against episodes of incontinence, through its fluid-resistant material.  The Universal Cover, on the other hand, is designed to help the cushion conform to the user’s body shape, giving the cushion its own identity, shall we say.  As you can see by reading about just a few of Roho’s cushions and covers, Roho deserves its place as a worker of medical wonders and a much-recommended item for wheelchair owners anywhere.

Reducing Back Pain With A Lumbar Support Cushion

Filed under Cushions | No Comments

There are several possible causes for that dreaded type of back ache popularly known as low back pain.  Take note, that’s low, as in lower back, and not the degree of pain, because this can be a very unpleasant experience for your back.  Poor posture is one particular cause, as well as using the wrong type of cushions.  But with a lumbar support cushion, it is possible to prevent – and even cure – most cases of low back pain.

A few lumbar support cushions exist in the market, but the most popular one would be the one created by Carex.  The Carex cushion is versatile enough to be used anywhere – primarily at home, or even on your car seat – and its interior is made out of memory foam.  Memory foam “remembers” your body contour allowing you better comfort with subsequent use, and the foam itself is slow to recover, extending the lifespan of the Carex lumbar support cushion.  It can even be used as a lumbar support cushion for office chair.  Other manufacturers of lumbar cushions include DuroMed and Homedics.

Those looking for lumbar cushion support in the next cushion they purchased would be pleased that these cushions are generally small and light, almost like an average cushion without special support.  Regardless of the brand, they can usually be carried anywhere and easily installed on your driver’s seat or passenger seat.  As stated above, the lumbar support chair cushion can prevent and cure lower back pain.  The cushions provide preventive measure for those used to sitting long hours in front of a computer, and we all know these are the types of workers who are among the most susceptible to low back pain.  And for those already experiencing these pains, having a lumbar cushion can actually alleviate some, if not all of the pain.

The lumbar back support cushion does not enjoy the popularity or high sales that its conventional relatives enjoy.  But it does have its followers, so to say, and more and more doctors and chiropractors recommend getting one.  It does not cost much – the Carex model usually costs $25 and below – and considering the costs in medicating back pain, these cushions can be a good investment for a very low price.  Whether you need a backup plan for your back while still pain-free, or if you want to tell the back pain to back off, lumbar support cushions are the best way to go.

Homedics Shiatsu Back Massage Cushion Review

Filed under Cushions | No Comments

Shiatsu back massages have been around since the 1940s, when Tokujiro Namikoshi founded the Japan Shiatsu College at the start of the decade and developed his form of shiatsu therapy that remains influential up to this day.  In the 21st century, it is not just masseurs and masseuses who can do shiatsu, but believe it or not, cushions are very much capable of this as well.   Here we review the Homedics SBM-500H Shiatsu Back Massage Cushion, a great help for anyone with back problems and a great way to relax after a long, hard day at work.
To get you started on Homedics, this is a company well-known for its shiatsu back massaging cushion models, including the MCS-600H, QRM-400H, MCS-400H and QRM-400, just to name a few.  They also offer portable massage mats for considerably lower prices than the shiatsu cushions.  The SBM-500H, however, is the top of the line shiatsu cushion being offered, and we have every reason to believe they have given us another winning product.  Let’s take a closer look at this cushion and what it has to offer.
The first thing to note is the SBM-500H’s weight – it weighs in at least 20 pounds, meaning it may be a bit of a burden to carry around at first.  But once you’ve found a nice place to put it in, you’re sure to enjoy the convenience that shiatsu back massage cushions offer, rather than getting a professional masseur to do the job.   The SBM-500H provides massages for both the back and shoulders, and the Vertical Command Track allows you to customize the massage to fit your height, so you don’t need to worry about being too tall for this product.  The machine’s programming allows for six different types of massage, either shiatsu or rolling for full, upper or lower back, and quick heat makes the massage more relaxing.
The Homedics SBM-500H Shiatsu Back Massager Cushion does not come at a cheap price at just under $200, but once you’ve used it you’ll agree it’s worth every cent you’ve spent on it.   In case you’re not satisfied with the product, or if it would ever conk out at an inopportune time, the SBM-500H comes with a solid two-year warranty.   A lot of online retailers carry this product, so make sure to put this on top of your wish list if you’re looking for a good massage and a good way to reduce nagging back pains.

Getting Good Deals On Outdoor Chair Cushions

Filed under Cushions | No Comments

The worldwide recession has not been too kind on our wallets as of late.  We find ourselves struggling to save even for the simplest thing.  And that includes home improvement needs, such as looking for nice outdoor chair cushions to make your patio look more interesting and appealing.  That’s why more and more buyers have started going on the lookout for the next outdoor chair cushions clearance sale.  In these tough times, it’s always great to save a buck, and these clearance sales certainly do their part.

The first place to look, for us personally, would be on the World Wide Web, where a quick search for some outdoor cushions on clearance would produce a lot of results and plenty of sites to choose from.  Local shops have these as well – one time we were able to find great discounted prices on outdoor wicker chair cushions and outdoor lounge chair cushions.  But compared to local shops or retailers, which often aren’t too keen on lowering their prices in a snap, the Internet is a goldmine for these clearance sales.

A distinct advantage of searching online is complete information on the products, as well as pictures.  Looking for outdoor rocking chair cushions?  A lot of these sites have search boxes too, so search for the cushions of your choice and in a few seconds, you’ve got several pages of options to choose from.  One disadvantage we can think of is that some of these outdoor chair cushion sites, which are mostly third party retailers, may not always make good on their delivery promises, and sometimes you can’t be too sure of the quality of the material you’re getting.  Still, most are fairly reliable – this is not absolute, but more often than not, sites with good layouts provide reliable service and products.

If you’re not comfortable shopping online for cheap outdoor chair cushions, then by all means, check your local shop – maybe they have a clearance sale running, just like when we checked ours.  The advantage of this method would be being able to see the cushions right then and there, and being able to gauge the product’s quality just by looking at it and touching it.  But as stated earlier, there are times that local clearance sales are far and in-between. Regardless of which method you choose, though, we’re sure you wouldn’t have much trouble finding a nice deal on outdoor patio cushions.

Why You Should Get A Memory Foam Seat Cushion

Filed under Cushions | No Comments

If the seat that you’re using is giving you constant back pain, maybe it’s time you considered getting a memory foam seat cushion for yourself.    Here we shall discuss some key points about this great innovation, and why it would be a great idea to get one the next time you want to buy a cushion – may you have regular back pains or not.

Just what is a memory foam seat cushion, if you may ask, and how did they start out?  Memory foam, for starters, was developed way back in 1966 by NASA’s Ames Research Center, though it would only be in the early ‘80s that memory foam would be unveiled to the public in the form of memory foam cushions, which were quite expensive at first.   These special cushions can actually adjust to your body shape and how you sit, thus the name.  Once your body makes an impression on the memory foam, the material used will create a form of your body and hold that in place for an extended period of time, or as long as you use the cushion, thus conforming to your body shape.  Drivers will be pleased to know that memory foam car seat cushions are available as well, making the long drive much easier to handle!  Indeed it is a great stress and pain reliever to be using a memory foam cushion.

Aside from comfort and alleviating back pain, these cushions have other distinct advantages.  The foam used for the cushions holds up longer than most other materials.  That means you don’t need to spend for costly replacements every few months or so – you can enjoy the comfort of your memory cushion for a long period of time.  The memory foam is soft enough for adequate comfort , so you don’t need to worry about there being a “catch” in buying this specialized type of cushion.

Memory foam seat cushions usually cost about $50 brand new – a fraction of what they originally cost back in the ‘80s –  which means they are relatively affordable considering the wealth of convenience and comfort they bring.  They may not totally eliminate the risk of chronic back and spine problems, but they can certainly help in the cause of reducing it, and help avoid costly visits to the chiropractor.   Now isn’t that enough reason to get a memory foam seat cushion for yourself or your loved one?

Spicing Up Your Patio With Outdoor Cushions

Filed under Cushions | No Comments

The patio is oftentimes a place best suited for entertaining guests.  It is also the area of your home that neighbors are most likely to see first.  And you wouldn’t want guests or neighbors to see a drab looking patio with no outdoor cushion to speak of.  That’s right, having outdoor cushions is a great way to make your outdoor area or patio look spiffy and attractive.  It’s a great way to attract guests and have them leave with great impressions.  It shows that you are indeed taking time out to make your home look as stylish and comfortable as possible, inside and out.  And there are several types of cushions to choose from for your patio, including those for chairs and for benches.

The most common types of outdoor furniture cushions available in the market are those made for chairs.  These come generally in flat or puffy types, and are usually weather resistant, built to last even under the toughest conditions.  These  outdoor chair cushions would generally cost anywhere from $30 to $120, though there are several others that may cost slightly less or slightly more.  They are available on many online sites, as well as major department stores like Wal-Mart, Target and Home Depot.

An outdoor bench cushion is another specific type of cushion you may want to consider.  Outdoor bench cushions add comfort to hard benches that aren’t exactly the best places to sit on.  The most recommendable fabrics to choose for your bench cushion would be suede and cotton if your patio is covered, and we suggest strictly going with polyester if your patio is not covered.  A quick search online would give you a better idea as to which cushions stand up best to all kinds of weather, particularly hot sunny weather.  Likewise, a lot of major department stores also carry these products with different types to choose from.

It is important to keep your cushions for outdoor furniture in top condition – even if they may be very weather resistant, certain precautionary steps need to be taken to guarantee a longer lifespan.  For extreme sunny weather, it’s best to keep your cushions inside or to offer them some shade, while they should definitely stay inside in case of rain or snow.  A lot of cushions these days are UV and/or mildew resistant, and while it’s a good idea to prioritize these cushions, it’s still best to be on the safe side and keep them inside if the weather gets too rough.

Maintaining Patio Furniture Cushions In Pristine Condition

Filed under Cushions | No Comments

When decorating the outdoor portion of your house, it is important to choose the right type of patio furniture cushions from the long list of options available online and in department stores.  Outdoor patio furniture cushions add comfort to your patio for a low price, but also would require special care and maintenance considering that these cushions stay outside, and are easily exposed to the elements.  Here’s some advice on how to maintain your cushions for patio furniture.

Our first tip is to store your patio furniture chair cushions inside in case of heavy rain.  Even if they are waterproof, be sure not to leave them outside during the rainy season just to be on the safe side!  And if they do ever get wet, dry them out immediately as soon as the weather is sunny again.   Some advise the use of special cleaners, but soap and water is still the best way to keep those cushions clean.  And when the winter comes, keep those cushions in because you wouldn’t want them to get “snowed out”.

To clean the patio cushions themselves, we have a few extra tips to share.  If ever you are using a cleaning solution, always wear protective gloves.  And be sure not to add too much detergent soap – put just enough in a bucket of warm water until it turns frothy enough for soap suds.  Gently clean the cushions afterwards with a sponge, rinse them out with clean water, and allow them to dry in the sun for several hours.  This works for all sorts of patio furniture seat cushions, since it’s such a gentle cleaning method.

What’s to do if your patio cushion needs replacement?  We strongly advise going with Hampton Bay patio furniture cushions.  They are known to last more than just one season and come very reasonably priced.  Their online store allows you lots of flexibility and information, and the patio furniture cushions they create are custom built and of the best quality.  You can choose from Subrella, Kampar, Sanopelo, Pacific Grove, Melbourne, Chateau and Monticello cushions, just to name a few, and delivery time is fast just the way you’d need it.  If it’s a patio furniture replacement cushion you need, we suggest you give Hampton Bay a try.

We’ve discussed patio furniture cushion maintenance – simple tips to do to protect them from weather – and also recommended Hampton Bay as the best patio furniture replacement cushions we know of.  Like all other types of furniture or cushions, even not-so-cheap patio furniture cushions do give out eventually, but it’s always best to show them a little tender loving care especially when the weather gets rough.

Have A Touch Of England With The Union Jack Cushion

Filed under Cushions | No Comments

One of the most interesting and colourful cushions out in the market is the Union Jack cushion., These eye-catching and patriotic cushions are based on the flag of the United Kingdom, and history buffs will know that the design originated from the Union of Great Britain and Ireland way back in 1801., These make great gifts, especially for Anglophile relatives and friends, and a wide variety of these cushions are available., We shall discuss some of these Union Jack flag cushion types and brands in greater detail in these next few paragraphs.

If you are looking for an established maker of cushions and pillows with innovative spins on this design, we suggest trying a Jan Constantine Union Jack cushion., Their website contains several cushion variations on the Union Jack, including a leopard print design., They even offer a pink Union Jack cushion that comes in two types – a mini cushion and a tea cushion as well for a slightly higher price., There’s many a cushion to choose from through Jan Constantine – and this retailer has a good record of quality products and fast delivery., We would say they are the best source on the market to suit your needs.

If you’re not interested in spending extra to get your cushion from Jan Constantine’s, how about checking out Retro To Go’s collection?, This historical cushion design is strongly connected with ’60s retro culture in the UK, and their cushions come in different sizes., However options are quite limited as compared to Jan Constantine, and those looking for different background colours may have to check elsewhere., Sorry, no pink cushions in here, in case you’re wondering.,, Those in the market for a vintage Union Jack cushion pattern can check Rockett St. George, but again their options aren’t as many as Jan Constantine’s.

Union Jack cushion covers and cushions also available through retailers such as Homestreet, but as we pointed out earlier, most are available through third party, discount and independent retailers., We advise discretion in this case, as buying online used merchandise like vintage Union Jack cushions can oftentimes be a tough way to go due to the second-hand nature of a lot of these products., But you cannot argue with the old school, yet trendy appeal of a fabric or leather Union Jack cushion cover – may it be as a living room cushion or a gift for friends or family.

Cushions: Indoors And Out

Filed under Cushions | No Comments

If you were to ask me for one, incredibly simple, inexpensive, and truly fun way to spice up the furniture around your house, without a doubt, I’d answer cushions. Seat cushions, throw pillows, chair pads… it’s difficult to have too many around the house. Between all the chairs, sofas, and patio furniture, you’re bound to need replacements over time. Not only that, replacements are an easy, exciting way to do an entire décor makeover.

Just for a taste of what there is to explore, consider your backyard deck. Whether you have tall bar stool furniture or lounge chairs, patio cushions are absolutely essential to that outdoor comfort you’d like to achieve. Yet it doesn’t have to stop at comfort. There are so many patterns, colors, and styles that you might choose from. And don’t worry about the beating sun. Let no rainfall douse your excitement. Outdoor cushions are made to weather all sorts of climates. Look for companies like Sunbrella that guarantee long lasting cushion beauty rain or shine.

Now you can move yourself indoors, leaving the patio chair cushions behind. The number of places you could use some new pillow décor is nearly countless. Your dining chair cushions get more than enough wear, reupholstering should happen at least ever couple of years. It’s a great opportunity to brighten or change the look of your entire dining area. Choose fabrics that are both elegant and hide spills or stains well.
For that darling window seat, you’re going to need a replacement as well. Window seat cushions fade easily, and tend to get more foot traffic than typical indoor pillows as well. Depending on how much sun your seat gets, you might consider Sunbrella cushions there as well. Either that, or something equally durable and fade proof.

On your rocker, the problem is not usually the fabric that gives way, but the pillow padding itself gets worn down quicker than on other seats. Perhaps it’s the subtle continuous friction as you rock back and forth. In any case, rocking chair cushions could probably be restuffed fairly often without overdoing it.
Moving on to the living room, you’ve got your ottoman, recliner, and sofa cushions to account for. These are the places that serious comfort is going to take most priority. You want really plush cushions, seats that you can sink into and remain sunk into for long periods of time. Support for your back is also important. Make sure your cushions are well stuffed to offer support, yet soft enough to enjoy sitting in. Depending on whether or not you have pets or children, your seat cushion will have to be at different levels of durability and/or washability.

While it is true that sometimes an entire pillow has to go, the majority of the time you can salvage your furniture merely by revamping the cushion cover. If you know you like a certain pattern or material, buy a few of the same covers to alternate between washes. Alternatively, if you have a hand at sewing, you can have a ball at the fabric store and make those cushion covers for fun on a weekend here and there. Perhaps it will become a real hobby. Give them away as gifts. Personalized scatter cushions are great memorandum for friends and celebrations.
