In today’s modern world security is now of paramount importance in many peoples lives. Normal wooden doors with a single key lock are often not enough to give people the security they desire. This is why steel security doors are becoming more popular.
A steel security door may conjure up an image of a prison cell type door but this is no longer the case. These doors now come in a wide variety of styles and colours including wood effect.
Steel security doors and frames go through many tests to ensure they can resist force in many forms including crowbars, hammers, screwdrivers etc. Bolts and hinges are welded and the doors are fitted with anti-pry strips to ensure that there is no way the door can be opened by the wrong person.
These doors are heavier and chunkier than the average wooden door. They normally weigh around 50kg/m2 and measure 45 mm (1¾”) thick including an outer steel skin of around 1.5 mm. It is usual for each door to be fitted with up to 4 heavy duty hinges which will be welded to the door and to the frame. These hinges may include dog bolts giving added security to the hinged side of the door.
Obviously the locks on security doors are of utmost importance. This will normally be a cylinder lock with up to 20 extending bolts and up to 5 dead bolts. This effectively locks the door in all directions and at all points. A door retainer allows the door to be partially opened but still kept secure, similar to a door chain but much stronger.
To allow the occupant to view any visitors before opening, there may be a small window made with 44mm thick toughened glass, at eye level height. This would be set within a steel frame, welded for additional security.

Many people who are constantly being pestered and annoyed by insects on warm days during the summer will reach out to a screen door for assistance. This is a great idea as screen doors will provide much needed protection between yourself and the outside area which is the main source of these annoying and pesky insects. But sometimes being covered from small, harmless bugs isn’t all that one needs from their door. This is the reason why many of you are looking to purchase a security screen door and would like more information on the subject.
A security screen door will provide a home with an added layer of protection, allowing the home owner to sleep better at night, knowing him and his family are being protected while they sleep. What makes this item such a great purchase is the fact it is built with very sturdy materials, like cast iron and other, reinforced types of metals like steel and such. The front exterior of the door is covered with grilles made of similar material and is also padded with iron bars that provide extra strength to the barrier should someone try and break through.
These doors are specially made with extra hinges to provide even more security to the home. Additionally, the locks are made of much more strong metal materials which aren’t frequently found in standard screen doors, but often in the heavy standard house doors which are made from solid metal or wood. A strong and reliable lock is something every door should have, especially one made specifically for extra security.
Your new security screen door will be held firmly in its place with clamped hardware with rivets in the material, whereas normal doors are using weak clasps made up of a rubber material.
These are the obvious perks to using a metal screen security door. If you’re a home owner who’d like to protect the inside of his home from intruders, this is probably your best bet as far as screen doors go.
