Variations of Central Heating Radiators

Generally central heating radiators are installed in your home or workspace to keep it warm and cosy. There are many different designs and styles of radiators available to the consumer in all different sizes and colours available to fit any type of home decor.

Radiators not only vary in size but they also vary in their heat output. It is very important to choose the right radiator for the right job or room so you need to make sure you choose the correct one to fit all your needs.

There are three different types of radiator for different functions;

The k1 or type 11 radiator is a single panel single convector that normally consists of one steel panel on the front and it usually has one convector otherwise known as a fin. In order to heat a room to a decent temperature level you have to have a central heating radiator with sufficient capacity to do the job efficiently so it is more cost-effective. To make sure you get it right you can calculate the expected heat loss so you know the right size of radiator to buy.

P+ or type 21 radiators are also known as double panel single convectors. These radiators have two steel panels at the front and rear and usually consist of one fin or convector. Once again you need to make sure that you purchase a radiator that has good capacity, is efficient, and satisfies the heat loss calculation for the room in question.

Double panel double convective radiators are known as K2 or type 22 radiators. They generally have two steel panels to the front and rear and two convectors. A great example of one of these types of radiator is the Myson premier round top radiator.

Any type of radiators heat output is measured in British thermal units per hour or BTU / HR. The higher the value, the more heat the radiator produces. Higher Btu measurements are often reflected in higher prices but all difference styles will be available no matter what the BTU is.  Whether you are looking at aluminium, cast iron or chrome radiators, always check the BTU and make sure they are the right radiator for the size of room they will be heating.

These classic appliances made their first appearance during the 1860s as free stranding units. The Job of a Furnace Filter

Furnace filters are intended to satisfy a single function.  Specifically, they are made to diminish the quantity of household dirt that passes through the furnace and circulates through your house. The dust that is within the air in your home can be made from many completely different things such as pet dander, mildew and dried human or pet skin.

At the essential level, the job that a furnace filter is meant to try to do is  straightforward.  The basic principle is that a furnace filter traps irritants that are circulating in the air in your house.  The way this works is somewhat more detailed then that straightforward description however.  Filters that catch particles permit air to freely flow and consequently catch only the largest particles.  Filters that catch the smallest particles can become promptly clogged and place a severe strain on the furnace’s blower motor which may cause needless wear and tear on your furnace resulting in expensive repairs.

You want to search out furnace filters that are able to achieve correct air flow and achieve catching the tiniest particles possible so that the air you breath is clean and pure. Disposable fiberglass filters are both popular and low-priced.  However, disposable filters lack the same level of efficiency as reusable furnace air filters.   One of the issues of these fiberglass disposable filters is that their surface if very limited.  The reason for this is often that if the filter was in a position to block each tiny particle within the air then the filter would rapidly become clogged and correct air flow would be negatively effected. To compensate, fiberglass filters catch only the biggest particles and allow the smaller mildew and bacteria particles to continue to circulate.

Then again, if you employ a pleated furnace filter, it is in a position to trap tiny irritants from the air due to the fact that its surface area is abundantly larger. This allows furnace filters to be more economical and to block smaller particles.

The way of rating the potency of furnace filters is named MERVs.  Increased MERV ratings point to better levels of filtration efficiency in a filter.  MERV measures the scale in microns of particles that are able to pass through the furnace filter.  A good home furnace filter ought to have a MERV rating ranging from 5 to 12.  Never get a filter whose MERV rate is lower than 4 since this type of filter will be inadequate for acceptable air filtration. However, over twelve is overkill for home use and suited solely to hospitals.

Good Air Filtration Systems Are The Start for Healthy Living

Have you ever considered how important air filtration is to your health? Clean air goes way beyond what you can see in the air. Particles many times smaller than a human hair float around in our homes and we breathe these in. Most of the larger particles get trapped in our nasal passages and throats, but a significant portion can make it all the way into our lungs. These particles can do damage to the lungs and cause allergic reasons that you are well aware of, such as COPD and asthma.

Clean air is actually easy to come by in the home and it starts with good filtration techniques. When I refer to good filtration, I mean at least a HEPA filter. HEPA is a designation for a type of filter efficiency. HEPA rated filters will remove particles down to a .3 micron size. These are much small than the width of a human hair and these small particles float around, unnoticed by the human eye.

Any good home air purifier will remove these particles. This is perhaps more important in the winter as the air is usually very dry and supports more particles flying around. In fact, if you want to reduce the load on your home air filter system, add humidity to the air during the dry winter months. Humid air will cause many particles to clump together and then be too large to float.

Good home air purifiers have become easy to find and there are many manufacturers that produce quality devices. The main thing you want to look for is a HEPA filter. Avoid the ones that actually think Ozone is good for you. Yes, certain manufacturers sell air purifiers that produce ozone, and since it smells good to most people, it makes them think it is “fresh” air. Ozone is not good for you to breathe.
