Stack On Gun Safe: The Cavalier Of The Gun Safe World
A lot of folks are making the responsible decision to invest in a gun safe to protect not only their firearms, but their filing, jewelry, and cherished photo albums as well. Not all gun safes are the same. When I first began getting interested in the home security industry, I must admit, I kinda thought they were. I hate to beat an old cliche, but there is just as much variance in gun safes as there are in automobiles. While the proverbial Cadillac of the gun safe world might be a Browning or Liberty model, the you might consider a Stack On gun safe to be something like a Chevy Cavalier.
Cavaliers have been on the streets forever, and Stack On products have been in American homes for almost 40 years. This is because they’re semi reliable and very affordable – just like a Cavalier. Ya see, investing $1000 into a safe may seem like a lot of money (it is), but depending on your expectations, it may not be enough. With a Stack On Total Defense safe (one of their nicer products), you can expect a 750 lbs steel box that has been rated by a reputable testing company (Intertek) to last 30 minutes in blazing 1400 degree Fahrenheit flames.
That may sound impressive – I suppose it is. However, when you compare it to Liberty’s $5500 National Security Magnum vault, another fireproof gun safe, which has been proven to last up to 2.5 hours under the same fiery duress, you’re probably not quite as blown away.
Fire, of course, isn’t the only enemy of your valuables. Though home break ins may be nearly as uncommon as a house fire, it’s still a good idea to be prepared. Stack On offers protection that is worlds better that putting your cash, documents, and firearms behind a locked closet, as they’re equipped with 1″ steel bolt locking points, and surrounded by 12 gauge steel walls. That may keep your neighborhood thug out of you valuables, but if you get a pro in there who knows what he’s doing, you might have an empty safe on your hands. Damage caused by fire and theft to your Stack On handgun safe is covered by the company for a lifetime (original owner only), but you may still may be looking at a beat up steel box with nothing left in it.
In the gun safe world, you get what you pay for. Many top notch safes, like the ones mentioned before, are fully equipped with over two dozen 1 1/2″ steel bolts, 7 gauge steel, and a slew of different relocking mechanisms designed to make any crook’s life a living hell.
It may sound like I spent the majority of this article knocking Stack On gun safes, rather than promoting them, but I’m just being objective. They make a great product for the price, and many of them are equipped with the aesthetic bells and whistles that you’d find in safes costing $4000 more. Just make sure you do your homework when spending your hard earned money on the safe that you want to protect it.
