Range Hoods: Stylish Kitchen Ventilation

The kitchen is an often used room in any home, but cooking preparations can cause condensation and odors that stay long after a meal has been enjoyed. Proper kitchen ventilation is a way to prevent damage from steam and condensation from happening and also removes stagnant, steamy air from the home before odors have a chance of seeping into materials where they stay for an indefinite amount of time. However, many people are afraid of ruining the look of a stylish kitchen by adding ventilation systems and that is one of the reasons this feature is often neglected. Fortunately, there are many kinds of ventilation systems available and these can blend in seamlessly with the kitchen’s style, can add a design element to the room or if added as an afterthought are made to be functional and attractive in appearance.

The types of kitchen ventilation available to choose from are traditional range hoods, slide-out vents, downdraft vents that may or may not be retractable and canopy hoods. Each type of ventilation has its own advantages and disadvantages. Even though the choice has to be made carefully, the benefit is that a ventilation system can be found for any kind of kitchen and building structure. Whereas the range hood blends in with the appliances and look of the kitchen, the slide-out system or retractable downdraft vent can be hidden from view when not being used. Canopy hoods are generally attractively designed and effective at ventilating the room.

Regardless of the kind of ventilation chosen for the kitchen, there are a number of features available that can meet or fulfill special requirements. For example, it is possible to have features such as fans to circulate air, automatic shutoff function, heat detection sensors and built-in lighting. There is also a wide range of styles, colors and brands to choose from so that it is possible to easily add ventilation as an afterthought.
